I think Ines' chance to play at a really good program like Gonzaga was due to her being on the bench at Uconn. If she had gone to that small school in FL, she would have gotten minutes but never had the exposure Uconn gave her.

True, but let's not forget that in her freshman year, when circumstances forced her to play crucial minutes, she performed admirably to preserve a couple of wins for UConn. Her performance shone the spotlight on her

Not so good today. Stanford jumped all over Gonzaga right out of the gate and it's just getting worse in the second half. Nobody from GU having a particularly good game.

I watched some of the game. Really watched for Ines. So happy she's at a school where she's getting to play a lot. But she really wouldn't get any playing time for most high level programs. A mid-major is the perfect place for her!! A solid player and wish her the best!

Ines led the Zags in scoring with 16 points as they beat Wyoming 62-51 in Spokane. She went 5-10, 2-3 from 3, 4-5 from the line, all 4 makes were in the last minute and 17 seconds of the game.

Ines played well and looked confident in her play. The Stanford game, it was expected that she would struggle. The whole team struggled but it was nice to see Ines play well against Wyoming.

Ines scored 14 points with going 5-11 and 4-8 from 3pt land with 4 steals and 2 blocks in 29 minutes of play in Gonzaga's 81-68 win over New Mexico. She unfortunately had 4 turnovers also.

In tonight's season opener, Gonzaga beat Montana 82-69 and Ines Bettencourt played 33 minutes and scored 16 points with 5 assists, 2 steals and just 2 turnovers. Great start! Many of their games on shown live on ESPN+.
Why can't we get kids like that?

I think Ines is in the right place for her. Ive watched a few games and I believe she made a good choice.

I also have been following Hana Muhl and shes looking pretty good too at times. Both are very good players but at the same time neither play at the level needed to get much court time at UCONN.

I've been following both INES and Hana.... some great story lines there. Transferring
can be such a bonus: to the new team and to the individual player. It you love
the game, moving on for more playing time is a Great Idea (assuming you find
the right Team and H.C.... Hana and INES!) Go Portugal! Go Croatia!

Ines’s story is enchanting to me and I see to others too. But, had it not been for the spate of injuries, she would never had put on a UConn uniform. I say this not criticize but, in my mind, to elaborate on the enchantment.

When it was announced that Ines was coming, I took a long look at her FIBA games the previous summer. Ines played the off guard on the Portuguese team, she was very right-handed, hesitant to take her shot but athletic.

Now, she is working herself into a lead guard, using both hands and defending better on a team that could make the tourney. And she has a post to work with all season.

What’s not to like!

Ines only played 26 minutes in the Zags 65-64 loss to Missouri State. She scored 12 points going 6-11 and 0-1 on 3 pt shots, 2 rbds, 2 stls, 1 t/o and 4 fouls. They lost on a made foul shot with only 2 seconds left. They play Texas Tech today.

Ines has been pretty impressive playing for Gonzaga. She hit a nice coast to coast, finish at the buzzer, shot against Missouri State. I am impressed with her handles, especially when teams press Gonzaga. Ines seems to handle the press well. I guess the West Coast pressure defense ain't the same as the East Coast pressure defense. :);) For all the folks who said Ines couldn't handle defensive pressure.

The 3 young ladies at Maryland, Saylor, Mir and Amari average a combined 47.5 minutes of play while Ines averages 30.7, they have a total of 90 points with a game average of 15.4 points. While Ines has 77 points and a game average of 11 points.

The move worked out well for Ines. She is now playing against competition that is more her level. Also, at UConn there weren’t any minutes available for her to play. Just to many players in front of her. Glad it worked out for her.

Rough start to the season for the Zags. Probably already at the point that an at large bid is out of the question, so it's win their conference tourney or miss the Big Dance.

You’re calling it after 8 games?
Yes. They have to get their resume wins before they get to conference play, WCC foes don't help much. Beating Florida St. today would help, but they would need more than that, and there just isn't much left on their schedule that could move the needle.

While it's difficult to directly compare Ines' stats to Chen due to Gonzaga having played 9 games while UConn has only played 6, here they are anyway. So far Ines compares favorably against Chen when it comes to scoring.

Ines 29.7 MPG FG% 42.3 3PT% .370 FT% .667 PTS 86 9.6 AVG RBS 2.2 ASST 20 TO 34 STL 12

A test case of how meaningless individual stats are.
