Raiders of the Lost Ark not a top 10 film? Rocky?

Strange list

The IMDB list also does not seem to acknowledge movies made by Amazon. No Manchester By The Sea? Maybe I’m mistaking some on this list as more traditional movies, but I don’t know how this movie isn’t on this list but some of the other crap is.

Requiem for a Dream is on HBO now. I remember watching that movie alone on a cold rainy day for the first time and having to take a shower after.

Interstellar should not be on the list at any number. It's a very medoicre movie.

As an aside, you rarely see Ben Hur on any of these top ten lists. Yet the movie was the landmark in size, scope and spectacle, it saved literally the movie studio, won dozens of awards, and the chariot scene (and you could say the same for the naval battle) set a standard for action pieces that still stands up to the very best today.
That's because Ben Hur doesn't have an army of rah rah articles lobbying for it's greatness. Ben Hur rests on it laurels, but Shawshank Redemption didn't win any awards, all it has is dozens of writers who have written scores of over the top articles for years, trying to lobby for some greatness recognition. Shawshank was a very entertaining movie, but to put it in the same league as Ben Hur is ridiculous.

My top 20 list......in order

1)The Wizard of Oz
2) The Apartment
3) A Place in the Sun
4) The Sound of Music
5) Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
6) Dr Zhivago
7) Ben Hur
8) Shane
9) Giant
10) To Kill a Mockingbird
11) The Godfather
12) The Hurricane 1937
13) A Passage to India
14) How Green Was My Valley
15) Schindler's List
16) The Caine Mutiny
17) Vertigo
18) M*A*S*H
19) Casablanca
20) Gone With the Wind

Interstellar, The Prestige, Gladiator, Inglorious Basterds, and Braveheart are allllll too low
Agree with some of your picks, but Braveheart was a joke, the production values were terrible. The producers realized after the film's release that many of the Scottish warriors standing in the background behind Mel Gibson waving swords, before they charged the British, were wearing sunglasses. Lol

I still don't understand how Vertigo is ranked so high in these polls. It sucks, I don't buy Jimmy Stewart's character for a second.

I have to disagree. Hitchcock is one of my top three favorite directors, and Vertigo is in my top 5 Hitchcock films. Of course, with Hitchcock, you probably have about 15 films that could rank in his top 5, he was that good.

As for the IMDB list, I would have a hard time coming up with my own top 50. I do know if I tried, it would not resemble that list at all.

We've done this before and reached similar conclusions. Here's the list.

Here's a link as to why Shawshank is a worthy #1

Shawshank, The Godfather and 12 Angry Men all make my top 10 list, but another favorite Casablanca is way down at 50.
Certainly has more credibility due to ranking by user reviews, as opposed to the idiotic RT lists that go strictly by critic reviews that are universally terrible.

The Day of the Jackal should be in there. Superb political thriller.

But not the Americanized remake "The Jackal" which was fairly blah.

Psycho was the best Hitchcock film. It broke rules and put a nation on the edge of its seat. I saw Psycho in the theater and you could feel the paranoia and fear in the air as it moved to the climax.

Right - the one I remember is from 1972 - 73 or so - guess I have never see the American version.

You'll be fine if you never see it. I did see the early 70s movie at some point. I think I read a big by the same title too?

How do you put Ferris Bueller a love great movies like Good Will Hunting? Or No Country for Old Men? Apollo 13? How is Gone With the Wind not on here but The Wizard of Oz IS? Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan are way too low.
They also call Billy Madison “Bill Madison”. That sounds like a completely different movie. It sounds like it’s about some soldier or politician.
