Malachi is the hero today. 14/2/9 from your bench PG is legit.

Mullins looks the part despite the quiet statline. Good shots, got in the right spot, worked for rebounds, moved well.

Reed needs to rest until Kansas 24/7. Not moving like himself at all.

Reibe's minutes during this injury are going to be HUGE for us in March.

Right? What does the rulebook say for when the clock people mess up so badly…

Edit: announcers explained the clock people messed up PRIOR to the mess up we saw on replay a million times. Hence, the basket counts. What a mess. Go dogs.
The refs thinking was right. There were still 2 seconds on the play clock when the timer reset it to 20.

Malachi shot the ball 18 seconds into the shot clock.

So, it was close, but the logic was right.

Malachi Smith was the ultimate difference maker today, 2023 Diarra vibes. Such an important piece to get him playing that way & freeing everyone else up. Really want to see this team put teams away when they get up big, but hard to complain, they played excellent (for most of it).

Illinois coach likes his Balkan guys. Serbia, Montenegro, 2 Croats, a US born Serb.

Anyway, awesome win especially after some especially bad news recently. A little nervous when they cut it to 7 but our guys responded beautifully to close it out!

Got nothing from our best player and still won by double digits. Smith gets the game ball. Reibe honorable mention. Glad to see Solo getting his groove back in the first half. Mullins’ stroke is pretty.

The blowout was in full force when...

Karaban picked up the most ticky tack call to break the momentum.

Karaban and Solo came out of the game. And a couple minutes later the Illini comeback started.

Lots of fouls for the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half. Incredible!

They clarified that earlier in the possession they didn’t reset they clock when they should have, which apparently added up to making it not close when Malachi shot it.

Edit: that’s what the announcers said, but it’s not what happened. That situation calls for official postgame follow-up. It worked in our favor, but it was not good officiating (in my opinion).
