This is actually brilliant. See, if UConn wins, he can come back here and relish in the championship. If they do not, and the odds are against them whether we like it or not, he comes back here and says, "see I told you in December that they were no good."

Yup. He wins either way..he's either laughing in our faces or wanders back as the prodigal son expecting us to welcome his return with open arms. This guy might have the biggest ego on the Yard, and that's saying something

Not even close. There is a grand canyon sized gap between taking a "half empty" view and proclaiming that players "suck" and are "lazy." Luckily, the vast majority of posters on this board have no problem telling the difference between the two.

Well I think there's a difference between saying that they "suck" or are "lazy", which we should never say about some college kid anyway, and saying that they may have played poorly in a particular game, or that the team wasn't hustling. We've all seen UConn teams that just didn't bring energy or effort for a particular game or half, or players who had a bad day. For me, it's usually not worth talking about it. But I think it's fair game to criticize, for example, Jerome Dyson's poor decision making with the ball, as long as he gets the praise when he carries the team the next game.

The Heat only beat the Bobcats by 1 point, I guess their season is over too

It's funny that last year the board was 95% pessimistic to start. Only a couple people who actually watched a few practices came by and told everyone that the team was going to have a good year and that they were wildly underrated. After Maui, the optimism shot up to 70% or so (OK, I'm making all this up), but by the end of the BE schedule, this board was discussing whether the team was going to be invited to the NCAA tournament. No, really, there was a thread here about falling to the NIT after the BE regular season, followed by another thread declaring UConn would be a 9 seed. This was why Maker'sMuppet wrote that post.

Is this board optimistic? Generally yes. I don't see the point of being a fan otherwise. But it can also be realistic and pessimistic at times as well. Babysheep should have been here the day Ater Majok left school. He would have felt right at home.

This is so true. For the teams I really like, I'm always looking for signs and reasons for believing that they will make the playoffs or the tournament. But for this team, anyone who thinks that this team is in trouble isn't being "realistic", they are being stupid.

Wow! I think Babysheep is setting a Boneyard record! First BE game and he's already taking his ball home. Geez, what would have happened had the team actually lost?

You must not be a Red Sox fan. Sox fans are always looking for the potential downfall, the flaw, the weakness that will make them lose to the Yankees again. Ironically, last year they were finally optimistic...and look what happened. Agree this team seems fine, plenty of talent and extremely young. The Big East is again loaded, so we are going to lose some games. The sky will not fall. They will be much better by March.

I don't understand people that use a message board to post negative stuff. I think that is too easy to do and these boards are more fun when they are filled with fans that are as mental as I am and try to find the silver lining.
That does not mean AO is playing well- but I'd rather believe he will come around then dump on him when he is down.

I posted this once before, but AO could quit basketball tomorrow to study the pan flute and he still would have helped bring us a national championship. Yes, he should be playing better right now - I think it's clear that he hasn't responded well yet to being challenged for playing time for the first time in his career and he's pressing. But he deserves the chance to work his way through it. He doesn't suck and he isn't lazy - and those words shouldn't even need to be posted.

We'll need him a lot this season - whether it's as a 30-minute guy, or as a Rashamel Jones type who's numbers go down from earlier in his career, but brings defense and leadership off the bench. And if Drummond declares for the draft, we'll also obviously need him as a full-time starter again next year.

I initially liked this board but have come to realize it's full of idealist homers that are still living in last season's glory, and it's sickening. I hope I return humbled and to admit that my early worries were all for naught. But I just cannot stand most of you anymore. So many of you watch this team struggle against utter competition and chalk it up to lack of chemistry. 2 months later, you laugh off the same struggles and parrot about last season. Well, it isn't last season. It's this season (and don't tell me that you knew at this point last season that we were NC contenders), and we're playing poorly at this juncture. There is no way around it, and after 12 games, there should not be any more excuses. Something is clearly wrong with this team. None of us know what it is, but we all know that something is wrong, and all we can do is hope that something turns around. We will not get out of the Sweet 16 if we continue to play like this. Hell, if we can barely beat USF, who's to say we'll even get into the tournament?

Imagine if Cuse beat USF by 3 points. You all would be RELISHING in their struggle, just as most of you are relishing in Pitt's current struggles. If you would, that's fine, but don't act offended or surprised or respond defensively when we're dealt the same mocking.

Good luck, guys. Again, I hope I return in 4 months a more humble person. If I do, I take back everything I've said over the past few weeks. I absolutely love UConn basketball with everything I have, but right now I can't handle the majority of you guys and your willful ignorance.
What in the world makes you think any of us gives a crap whether you're leaving until April or not? Don't bother coming back then, either.

When I read this gem by Babysheep yesterday I realized he wasn't only an annoying Debbie Downer, but that something was also a little off.

People loved my (pointedly optimistic, mind you) preseason observations of team practices.
People also find my posts funny I guess.

Now this laughable farewell is confirming that this kid has a bizarre and unfounded sense of self importance.

Damn, now I actually feel bad for the wooly one. Come to think of it, Baby Sheep is an odd name in and of itself.

Agree. I cant stand how certain people utterly refuse to allow anyone to point out deficiencies on the team. Whats the point of a board to just talk about how great we are when we play so crappy? I for one am still certain that we will be great at the end of the season and are going to win it all again. However, in the meantime, I wont sit here and watch us play so lazily and disinterested and not say anything. We blow leads to crap teams and come out flat against a bottom dwelling big east team. It all comes down to effort. If we play hard and lose then fine. But when we play so disinterested then Im gonna voice my opinion. That doesnt mean I dont love Uconn basketball.

This says it all to me. You and babysheep did squat in the game and you come to the board describing players as if they are some video game not responding to your controllers. A lot of posters criticize players or games or plays. People will argue their differences and criticism is fairly well tolerated. But why should anyone tolerate posters with attitude problems. And there seems to be a consensus regarding attitude problems with you and babysheep and tampabill.

It is not coincidental that people who condemn players struggle with being condemned. It is not coincidental that people who point out flaws in players attitudes have obvious attitude problems themselves and are blind to it.

It isn't the criticism or the flaws of the team or the potential "failure" regarding this team that most of us are insisting be excluded from this forum. What we are marginalizing are posters who think criticism is about knocking the team or players as opposed to offering suggestion about their weaknesses or strengths. What we are marginalizing is the poster who struggles with the reality of the game, that it is composed of humans with strengths and flaws, as opposed to video games that we can reset if the outcome doesn't go our way. And what we are trying to encourage is how to handle adversity in life with the same dignity we handle success.

In the same manner we would love to see Alex go up stronger with his shots, we are encouraging posters to learn the difference between constructive criticism and vitriol. In the same way we do not want to see one of the UConn players lose control and sucker punch an opposing player, we expect the posters on this board to have the decency to respect the players even when they struggle. It has nothing to do with our being overly sensitive. These are civilized behaviors and without them, we have chaos.

Takes a ducked up ego for someone to think they need to make a going-away post about themselves.

"He deserves the chance to work his way through it" is arguably the wisest thing said in this thread.

I'm missing something here. You were allowed to say it. What's your problem? Do you think others shouldn't be allowed to disagree with you?
They have every right to disagree with me! I said that, however everyone is telling me Im not allowed to say anything bad about one of our players which is absurd.

Exactly. Maybe it's a maturity thing...I think a lot of the positive people are older because we've learned how much negativity brings a person down. I just said something similar on another post. Don't kick a man when he's down.
