If You Were Olivia Miles Would You Consider UConn?

Why would UConn want her? -- its roster is already quite stacked at the guard positions. And she would take up a slot that should go to a post player, which is a much greater area of need than anything in the back court.

We've lost two starting guards from our lineup, and she is a top quality player who could give us leadership at the point. We don't need two posts players from the portal ... one quality beast would do just fine while Jana strengthens her hands, improves her foot movements, and increases her vertical jumping ability.

It all depends on why she is in the portal to me. Great player, but what is she chasing or running away from. And those are the questions that Geno and Co. ask of any portal player. Could be her post grad degree and she needs to find a fit, which is true for student athletes and is a simple answer, the other reasons are more complex.

And yeah, we have a solid group of back court players, but if she wanted to come, you have to at least consider it - she is a more establish player than we have coming back.

And I think you have look at Sarah's great skill at playing the 5 before saying you need a post player. I expect Jana to be significantly better next year a full year past her Achilles. I expect Gandy to be this year's Jana, and I expect Geno to go small quite a bit.

She is also a very poor defender who was frequently given “offense-defense” rotation at the end of close games. No way does she fit in to this program.

As has been documented in numerous threads, if no one on the existing roster leaves other than those who are graduating, there is only ONE available roster slot for next year, not two. That one slot should be reserved for a post player if there is a good one available.

@ucmiami2 , I think it is quite possible that Miles and other Notre Dame players are testing the NIL market by entering the portal. If the grass is not as green as they think it might be at other schools, or if Notre Dame comes up with some new NIL opportunities, they (including Olivia Miles) may well return to ND.

You've failed to consider that she was returning from injury and out of shape.

I am not trying to be rude here... but her attitude and behavior does not fit the UCONN style. I recall watching the Notre Dame/Duke game where she made a basket flexed her muscles and then shimmed down the court... her showmanship is not something that Geno would tolerate.

UCONN and Geno are great at getting the kids that fit a certain style of play...

If anything, UConn needs a great big to give Jana a year to grow into a real force. If a guard, i would think a combo guard would be better than a PG. Miles is a great PG that needs the ball (ball dominant) to be successful and that's not how UConn plays...she is an average outside shooter and as for dashing to the basket we already have KK and Kellis.

Even if there were interest it's doubtful we would match the NIL that will be offered by LSU or other programs.

How much is UConn offering? That seems to be ths relevant question these days.

Why would UConn want her? Seriously! If one player transfers and if UConn got Williams and Miles they could be better than this years team. KK is a great spark of the bench but I don't think the lead guard on a title team

If Miles if available and wanting to play in Storrs I'd definitely take her if I'm Geno. She's one of the better playmakers and passers in the country and helps fill the void left by Paige/Chen. She also has improved her 3pt shot tremendously and could thrive in a motion offense. If she's a defensive liability, she loses minutes to KK, but she provides an elite playmaker at the PG spot and you have a great 2nd option in Arnold off the bench.

For Miles, I don't know if UCONN is the right fit to boost her WNBA stock though. If she goes there, she's at best the 3rd option offensively and would have a reduced role and less freedom than she did at Notre Dame. She'd need to learn/fit into UCONN's system rather than have UCONN's system cater to her style of play. Comparatively, if she goes to a school like TCU, Campbell likely structures his system around her (like we saw him do with Hailey Van Lith this year) and she'd have an opportunity to thrive as a standout.

Players who aren't good defenders are not attractive to the Huskies, so I don't see this happening.

Ok, let's not consider an All-American who might want to play for us. (sarcasm intended).

I know we don't speculate about transfers but the roster always takes care of itself.

I would take her in a heartbeat. Three level scorer and facilitator. Especially since most of the top teams will be trying to get the best players from the portal to make their teams competitive

if you’ve actually take the time to watch her play a few games, I can’t think of a player would be a worse fit for UConn
All of her offense is “hero ball”
Are three point shooting is very average
At Notre Dame she was a Poor defender
While her skill set may be appealing to the WNBA
Not a Uconn type of player

Kermit and I would love it

bingo

An impossible thought exercise, since I can't possibly imagine being a person who'd ever want to go to Notre Dame in the first place.

I give her credit for breaking free from the cult prison camp, but that doesn't mean I can imagine myself in her position.
