...you should take a gander at this page. After the actual pioneers ("firsts") at the top, see if you can find:

  • The picture of 15 or 16 year old Sveta, who scored 53 pts. in a H.S. game.
  • Tracy Lis's dominance of CT H.S. stats in the late 80's, and why she missed the single-game record by more than a hundred.
  • How many points did the Miller siblings score on the same day on the same court? (Yes, Cheryl scored more)
  • Who scored 94 points in 2 games on the same day, 151 points in 3 games in the same tournament?
  • What woman's team went 554-2-1 over 7 seasons in the 1920s-30s?
  • How many times did Rita Williams score 46 points in a game?
  • In how many different countries has Cynthia Cooper scored more than 40 points in a game?
  • Why does the Lithuania-Belarus-Ukraine area seem to have so many willowy, beautiful blondes, and which one dropped 45 points on Alytus?
Hats off to Paul S. Luchter, who apparently assembled all this stuff!

P.S. You've got to read the captions on many of the photos from the old newspaper clippings.

Yikes! That's a lot of data. Wow.

Something for everyone on that page. Tracy Lis owns the CT High School scoring records.

THANKS! This is great stuff!

Mildred “Babe” Didrikson must have been really tough to play in a men's industrial league! I played in an industrial league after college. At 5'10" I played the point but I could leap (mid-forearm hit the rim). So rebounds were not a problem ... except in the industrial league. I would go in to block out and find myself on the floor out of bounds and no foul. I would drive to the hoop and I felt like I was going off right guard for a 3 yards cloud of dust Woody Hayes run ... and end up on the floor ... no foul. I learned the meaning of no blood no foul. I can only imagine back in the Babe's day it must have been worse. As a woman she must have taken some hard cheap shots and kept coming back and excelling. Wow!

Yeah, that was one of them. There's also the caption about the girl playing on a guy's team who was probably going to miss the Wed game because she was competing in a local beauty pageant. (I think that was San Bernadino Valley.)
