If we won three in the Bahamas I suspect we would have been top ten.So far, with ups and downs and pluses and minuses, we’re right where the consensus for us was coming into the season. We’re a team that’s going to have a chance to get to the second weekend and compete at the top of the big east. And we have the potential to be better than we are today if either the role players can consistently contribute or the high ceiling guys like Hawkins and AJ can move towards their potential.
Unfortunately, however, some on here read way too much into our blowing out four terrible teams and expected us to walk into the Bahamas as a top ten team. We’re not yet. We don’t have the consistency in offense or outside shooting yet. And it’s possible we won’t. In which case we’re going to have to fight like heck on the boards and on D to be slightly better than last year.
Us against Baylor would have been interesting. I think under normal circumstances we’re 8-10 pts better than MSU currently. That may or may no be true in March. Instead some weaknesses got exposed true however we got punched back by guys in our weight class and survived. I think we’re legitimate top 20. The next test is a true OOC road game our first in the Hurley era. That will be a big indicator on how we do in. a hostile environment in some must win conference games.
