Even after coming off the post-season ban, he gave the NBA draft some serious consideration. With postseason eligibility comes more media coverage and Shabazz would have had more recognition for his junior season (which was criminally underrated, as I'm sure most of the Boneyard agrees). He could have also had the chance to make some more noise in the BET and the NCAA Tourney that could have helped Bazz become a late first round selection.

Completely. Nearly the same stat-line and he goes from all-nothing to All Universe.

Would we win with Roscoe starting at the four and Deandre at the three and how that would eliminate the whole three guard play that we won with. A foward set of Roscoe and Deandre is pretty good. Tough call.

No Deandre even as the enigma at times would have been more important than 12 rebounds a game by Roscoe……..I don't need to think about whether because Deandre has the ring to prove he was and Roscoe has…….well a ring also from 4 years ago……...

I really think there is a good shot Drummond stays if there is no postseason ban. He would have been without question the #1 pick in the 2013 draft, and with the way he talked throughout the season about returning, clearly it was something that wasn't out of the realm of possibility.

If we were to take Roscoe at his word that the postseason ban had no baring on his transfer, then maybe he still doesn't return. With Oriakhi, though, who knows? On one hand, it's possible that his relationships with the players and coaching staff were fractured to the point that him coming back wasn't a viable option. But then what else would he have done? He's not going to sit out a season to play somewhere for one year. Does he enter the draft? Between him and Andre, I get the feeling at least one of them returns, which at the very least would have mitigated our biggest weakness that season (rebounding). Were that the case, we definitely would have had at least a shot at making a deep tournament run, but the tournament is unpredictable and Boatright wasn't near the same defensive player last season he would later become. I like the way things turned out.

The only thing I will say is that Boat wasn't the same defensive player for most of the year until the post season this year also. He was good for sure but not GREAT like he was when March/April rolled around….the lights most certainly got his attention as well as the ultimate goal. And thinking back to the year prior we all knew he was capable of the same then just needed to concentrate on keeping himself in between the basket and his man to irritate and frustrate the offensive players. He did that so well in the postseason I would think he may have the year too also if given the opportunity. It will be interesting to see how he is for the regular season next year!?

Two things that will be factors:
  1. The big leap, in my opinion, was that Boat learned to sublimate his offense to Shabazz, thereby focusing on what else he could do. When he did that, he stopped letting his lack of utility(?) on offense affect the rest of his game. Everything else seemed to pick up as a result, including oddly enough his efficiency on the offensive end.
  2. And Boat likely saw all the attention his D was garnering during the tournament. To get to the next level, he's going to need all the hype he can get, so I'm betting on him continuing. It will be tough to maintain all season long, and he'll have his ups and downs there, but I expect that kind of effort from him.

Not really relevant but I love how to media kept saying that Ollie won a national title in two seasons at UConn but they seem to purposely overlook how we were banned in 2013 so really it's one title in one season. Sure, the work they put in in 2012-13 made this season possible but he literally had no chance to win the title in his first season. Also, I think we would've been fairly dangerous if we were able to play in the 2013 tourney. It always comes down to guard play and three point shooting. All the Final Four teams that year shot great from deep (Louisville, Michigan, Cuse, Wichita).

Yep, I agree. Boat's transformation on that end was unlike any I've ever seen. He went from being a decent defender to a dominant one basically overnight.
