There is a decent chance there will be enough affiliated teams to fill out the slate and we don’t get to play in a bowl if we go 8-4. If our most successful team in a decade misses a bowl does Dave start having actual talks with a conference like the MAC/CUSA/SunBelt? Would they take us?

I would say no. Bowls are nice perk but not the end all be all. Personally, I think most bowls are waste of time and just a way to try to guilt the schools alumni/fans into paying for overpriced hotel/bowl packages. A money making grift.
Then what exactly are these kids playing for? No conference title no playoff birth no bowl? Essentially just showcasing for their next school?

No, because word on the street is that there is a bowl that is very interested in having us and because you don't need to be in a conference to eliminate the potential of not being selected for a bowl.

I mean, UMass has a bowl agreement and they have never had a winning FBS season

An education.

Seriously though. There is no football only invitation forthcoming. I'd be surprised if DB hasn't had those conversations. Maybe C-USA would be interested but we are not because the schedule would suck.

Most kids in the G5 are playing for an education and perhaps to portal to a bigger program. I do agree going to a bowl is probably exciting for them but the whole bowl system is shaky - many players are opting out of the bowls. We gotta beat UMass. 8 wins and go bowling.

Reinvent the Yankee conference?
CAA at FCS. It has some decent eastern football schools. Richmond, Rhodie, Nova and UNH are going to the playoffs. Delaware finished 3rd but is ineligible because it is going CUSA next year. Maine, Stony Brook, Towson, William & Mary. If a group of these programs went to FBS, there would be an eastern conference which UConn Football could maybe be affiliated with. Add in some Sun Belt and CUSA programs and it could be something. Marshall, JMU, Delaware, etc. But no current conference is a good fit for UConn.

No and probably not.

I would not expect any large-scale upheavals over this from our corner and I don’t think a football-only relationship has any appear for those conferences.

Yeah. Except players have a blast playing them and they all want to play in bowl games. So, there is that issue.

We don't have to have a conference to have a bowl alliance. UMass had a bowl alliance for crying out loud.

I would be pretty suprised if a brand like UConn didnt get a bowl game spot....I understand the numbers of it, but can't they essentially make one up and add a team who went 5-7? I feel like they did that in years past.

They might. We will see.
