Someone needs to create a BoneYard code of ethics with the first being:

1) Thou shall and can disagree without layering personal insults on the opposing poster.

It just never goes well once the personal insults start bubbling. Think about how nice that exchange could have went without this piece:
"I do not mean to sound nasty, but this is the most absurd "post" i have ever read"

HooperScooper, get on it, you got the time :).
To be clear, you are saying that calling a POST absurd is out of bounds???? Or was it that I referred to the post as dumb? I never called him/her any names. I disagreed with the POST. If you think that is out of bounds, you and I have a difference of opinions with regard to the definition of an insult.

I'm just busting your chops for loving Sue Bird, when she doesn't love you back and only loves Megan Rapino, when you're clearly her soulmate.

The ignore button will work wonders. Some people are insecure and insults provide an outlet for them.

I'm not sure I'll have time but if it's in a tweet or on a podcast anywhere in the world I'm sure you'll find it. :)

Reed is notoriously slow starter, whereas Johnson is amped and active from the tip. They have several cut and lob plays for Johnson which almost evey game is good for a few buckets early that helps set the tone and pace. But when things need to get locked down defensively and rebound wise and we need some good old fashioned blue collar scoring, that's when Reed comes in and does his thing. Starting Johnson also lets Reed come in fresh and unencumbured by foul trouble. I think the coaching staff has been very smart about how they have handled the 5 between them.

I noticed Reed talking shiatt, elbowing, bruising, intimidating and banging all day against Providence. Its not that he has no fear he wants to instill fear. Just watch him without the ball searching for bodies.

He's a bully beast who's looking to dominate and crush his opponent. He's the player you want in the trenches, not worried about finesse or ballet moves, just Shaq'in!

He's also learning the system which can be complex especially for a transfer purging an old system. By the end of the month Samson could be seated.
He is a player who wants to punch (metaphorically) and keep on punching. I love that. But he has to keep his emotions in check, which he'll learn to do. They don't need technical fouls in key moments in the game. But I love this kid.

I've been thinking about the psychology of this on the opponent. How would I like to see Big Hoss stepping on the court and into the paint to start the second half completely refreshed and ready to go? Not so good. This psychology thing worked well last two years as well with Clingan coming off the bench behind Sanogo and vice versa. Then Johnson leaving and Clingan coming on. Big Hoss looks even bigger from that perspective.

Bench is our friend as the game wears on.

Hurley made a comment in his presser that Reed wasn’t “ready” when he put him in in the first half. The comment made it sound like Hurley wants to see more consistency before fully trusting Reed to start.
Johnson played well as the starter and had 3 buckets by the first timeout. Reed came in and killed the edge Johnson had built. Two turnovers, 1 board, 1 block, 1 dime. Reed out, Johnson back in, but his moment had passed. 2 turnovers, two missed shots. Johnson started the 2nd half -- 2 buckets. 1 steal, one missed shot. Then he threw the bad pass that got him yanked again. Reed came in, and dominated to the tune of 2 buckets, 4 free throws, 3 boards, 2 blocks, a dime and a steal, with only one turnover. I think he played about 12 minutes of the 2nd half, and only 18 for the game.

...and one of those first half turnovers was when the refs decided that the kickball rule no longer existed

The answer to the question is: Both. We need the two of them. Why make this a we/they issue?
Literally no one is suggesting we don’t need significant minutes from both. That doesn’t mean a discussion of who should be leading that timeshare is unreasonable.

The team's starts with Samson in the line-up hasn't been an issue
Our slow starts were a huge issue earlier this season, but yes they haven’t been lately. We’re solid at C this teams only glaring weakness is backup PG cough where’s Nowell?

With McNeeley out we lose rebounding and we can’t afford to have Johnson in the same minutes as before because well , he doesn’t rebound.
In fact tonight against Nova we have to at least stay level with them on the glass, either that or be incredibly hot from 3.
So during this stretch we need more Reed.

Providence actually scored 45 points in the 2nd half compared to 39 points in the first half.
Do actual facts matter any more?

More seriously, I fully agree with the line of thought that this staff knows what they are doing, and if Samson and Reed are getting roughly equal minutes, with who plays more depends on the individual game, that probably makes sense. On the other hand, I fully understand that, using the eye test, over the course of the season it has looked like Reed is a much, much more dominant traditional center.

Does anyone understanding analytics better than me want to post some complicated formula that shows whether one, over the year to date, has produced much more on an analytic basis?
