Two thoughts on the article:

- Both Ice & Ayanna raved about the impact of the crowd at 1st Night. Hopefully, KiKi and her parents got the same vibe.

- I don’t know if UConn has ever had a player quite like Ice, a big, strong, physical player with a great shooting touch all the way out to the arc.
Rebecca Lobo? Still high on the rebounding, blocks list, and could shoot 3pointers.

You all seem to miss that I said "If she Improves" this season. If she does improve she will be finishing better, and have a more accurate outside shot. Her defense should also improve. There have been other players who have had USA Basketball and high caliber AAU experience who took a while to learn the UConn system. She will have to show me she is as good on defense as you say she is. CW was supposed to be a really good defensive player coming into college but it took her some time. I still say if Muhl is better this season than she was last season she will start her junior season, regardless of Kiki's presence.
And I still think whatever Nika does she'll never be the offensive threat that Kiki already is right now. Kiki is bigger, faster, stronger, and more versatile. She may never have Nika's grit, but she's a hard nosed young lady, make no mistake. I too don't believe that Nika will ever improve enough to keep Kiki off the floor by her sophomore year.

Kiki could improve as well. Kiki is the #2 ranked player in her class. Every player ranked #1 or #2 that chose UCONN was a starter NLT the beginning of their sophomore year. I just don't think Nika can improved enough to keep Kiki from extending that streak.
Coco, I was speaking of next season when Kiki will be a freshman. I believe she will start her sophomore season.

I agree she can post up and finish inside and can shoot the three. Patterson is a more athletic player at this point but not a finished player like Brady. Patterson is like Gabby to me if she works hard for 4 years she will be something. Brady will be in the rotation next year!!! I won't comment on Rice until she commits.

Brady has so much to offer with her size, strength and offensive skills out to the arc...........I'm happy to see her fitness level has improved greatly too and before she even gets to UConn boot camp.......I expect great things from her.....

Coco, I love your lineup, but am wondering if you know something that most BYers don’t. However, at this point, my wish list is: a) Kiki Rice; b) a safe Thanksgiving; c) a merry Christmas.
PS: I do have my priorities straight, and not putting man before God, but I just want to see Kiki Rice in a UCONN uniform next year, and three more years after that.

Rebecca was a great player with a nice mid-range jumper. But I don’t remember her making many shots from the arc.
You made me curious. On the whole not a lot of 3PTers. Not the best free throw shooter. Rebounding was her strength. Became a much better passer. Did the Big Girl benefit from a lot of Lobo's assists?

I think Kiki would be a terrific fit also as she is exactly what that team would need. Both Azzi and Paige are shooting guards and neither is a point guard. Kiki has a terrific first step to the hole and is obviously smart as hell and "gets" the point position. Kiki has what Macdonald of Arizona had and she exposed the biggest weakness on the Uconn women last year. Speed and quickness in the backcourt. Kiki penetrates and dissects and should be able to also defend well. She's a great point guard with a very bright future somewhere. Stanford has something like 9 guards on their roster already and is maybe our biggest competition there. The Rice family in general is extremely impressive. Having her would take any team to another whole level and I think would clinch Uconn as the clear favorite ( I think South Carolina is right now ). Isuneh will be very much needed as well. Having both size and shooting touch is kind of important! Stretching the defense and being able to score against great teams. The key to Isuneh is how much time she can give the project to get in great shape and improve all aspects of her game. She will be up against maybe the biggest talent of recent years in Stanford's Betts. Now that is one hell of a challenge. It's going to be Jabbar vs Olajuwon all over again.

I stand corrected. Rebecca took and made more 3’s than I recall. My memory is not what it used to be.
oldude, I think your memory serves you well, while Rebecca had a decent 3 pt shooting percentage over her 4 year career she averaged 1.33 three point shot attempts per game. With over 1500 shots that were 2 pt attempts. It would be a stretch to think the opposition considered her as a three point threat when they game planed.

Paige is not a point guard? That’s just delusional! You may not want her to be one but that doesn’t make it so. I would bet that there aren’t 20 teams in all of women’s basketball that wouldn’t love to have Paige Bueckers as their starting point guard! Can she play off the ball as well? Of course, but that doesn’t mean she’s not a point guard! In fact, while I like Rice and hope she comes to UConn, she is simply not on the same level as Paige whether it’s as a pg or a shooting guard. She may reach that level but she’s not there yet. I’m just gobsmacked that you would claim that Paige is not a point guard!

Be nice to our new posters- name calling is not necessary. Take the opportunity to educate as other have tried to do for you. @TeamFirst! welcome to BY. Paige Bueckers won an award last year called the Nancy Lieberman award. That award is given to the best point guard in the country. Paige is a very gifted PG but I understand the point you were making. If Kiki does come to UCONN she can play PG along with Azzi and Paige. In fact all three players are capable of playing PG, SG or SF for a national championship contending team.

Hey, let's start a thread on who is in the 2022 starting 5!!!
Sorry if what I'm about to add to this has been mentioned after your post...didn't want to read any further, I wanted to get this in. Is it all right if I piggy back your 2022 starting 5 with who's going to get the minutes?

I thk, so i may be wrong, is tht Kiki is a pure point guard kinda like Crystal, Moriah, or Nika ,PB and are combo guards who can handle the point position, but I don't necessarily want trying bring the ball up against or guard some of the smaller quick points in the nation. Jmo

I get that it's controversial but my point is that Page is more of a shooting guard. That doesn't mean she can't be a point guard but to me Paige isn't a floor general in the sense of running the offense conventionally and she generally doesn't penetrate off the dribble. She usually lines up as a wing ...right? We don't really have a conventional point guard still in my opinion. If you watch Kiki's game she dribble penetrates a lot and has a quick first step. Paige is like a lot of players and is a hybrid.

Paige is a very good ball handler, one of the best (if not the very best) passers in college basketball, has to be told to pass less and shoot more as she enjoys assists more than scoring, and she won the Lieberman award for best point guard! To me, that shouts point guard! Can she play off the ball? Yes, but that simply speaks to her overall greatness. I think we can at least agree that she is a great player at either position.

Yet Geno had consistently throughout last season told Paige to pass less and shoot more. UConn wouldn't have beaten SCar without her shooting more and passing less.

But indeed Paige does run the offense that Geno wants and quite conventionally. Though you haven't seen her penetrate and kick much doesn't mean she can't. If you'd watched much of Paige's HS games she did a lot of dribble penetration, and in watching last years games you'd note she did quite a bit as well. Geno's offense though has always been an offense based on cutting into the lane. If you're not cutting, set a pick. It's never been an offense based around creating off the dribble, but around passing the ball and movement. Geno's offense, as is many throughout WCBB and the Association, is a hybrid triangle. Now, I've noted before that Kiki's first step is one of the best, but in coming to UConn she's going to have to play off the ball, which I'm certain she can do well.

If we were to access the Akashic record* and look up "point guard" we would find a picture of Bueckers.
