Ice Brady in the portal

I wasn’t expecting this and am upset to see her leave. She would have been very important for us last year if she played and I thought she would have been very important in the coming season also. When she was needed she always seemed to come through.

I think there could have been playing time for her this coming year, but it would have been a limited role. I hope she gets to go somewhere and contribute and playout her career her way.

Go Ice, I'll follow along and cheer wherever you go. Forever grateful for everything you gave to the program, especially crucial minutes and big shots in 2025 against SC and UCLA. You earned that championship ring!

I was wondering with the old guard Azzi, Carol, and Ayanna leaving as well. Ash and KK were a couple years removed and are kind of in the middle of two different eras.

Best of luck to her. I had thought maybe UConn had gotten a steal with all eyes focused on Betts. Very talented player.
I did leave out Jana (when will I stop "listing" when it comes to the UConn women's basketball team?). This must be tough on her.

Bummed, but best of luck to her. Hope she can get and remain healthy.

.-.
Sadly; this was another player that I knew would depart. I wish her the best just like Ayanna. At least they both have a championship ring to show everyone.
I did figure that her competitive drive would force her to leave. But you never know. This might be just as much about choosing a master's program as choosing a basketball program as she did just graduate.

Either way, best of luck to her.

I feel so sorry for ICE. Her dreams was to play for UConn. Committed when only a sophomore. EricSD and I met her that year. She was super nice. I'm hoping maybe she will transfer to San Diego State. They have a pretty good (mid major) team, and she could be a star in her hometown.

If we look at the brightside, she played an important role in helping her childhood dream team win a national championship, can feel fulfilled in that achievement, and can now go on to achieve other goals that are important to her. But yeah it was probably a tough decision in light of everything you said.

Might we see her at Marquette next year, to replace Skylar Forbes?

Or somewhere else in the Big East, where coaches are likely to be more familiar with her abilities than those in other conferences? (Not to mention that the Big East has a need for players with size ...)

Factoring out her recent surgery and the issue leading up to it, I had thought for some time this was what I thought she should do and would do. It makes great sense. She got her degree, she got a ring, she played under Hall of Fame coaches and next to All-America players. Why not catch on some place where you might get full-time minutes and see how far you can go. And if it meant being close to home, all the better.

But the surgery put her in a bad situation. Geno mentioned that she was in for a long rehab. If recovery meant rehabbing for a year a la an ACL, that would mean she wouldn't get back on the court till at least February. So I didn't know how things would work out. I hope with all my heart it will be way less and that she can have a healthy and rewarding final season. And as with Ayanna, maybe you could petition for an additional year given that (I assume) the problem was a recurrence of an earlier injury.

In any event, I appreciate what you did for the program, I'll miss your smile, and Godspeed Ice Brady!

[why am I blinking so much right now?]

I know why both her and Ayanna are leaving, it's the back end of their playing careers and they want to play, but im such a wimp, if im somewhere for so long, it's so hard to leave. Takes a lot of courage in my opinion. Also because almost anywhere may never measure up, and not just the basketball part. They all seemed to really like each other. Its so sad even to see the seniors leave. I'm getting old because it gets harder for me to accept it. It didn't used to bother me as much.

How about a Pac 12 school? Potentially one or two games in San Diego (unless of course Ice picks San Diego State) and far less travel coming off major knee surgery. Unsure if the new look Pac 12 will be a league that consistently gets more than one bid for the NCAA tournament though.
ICE will do better in colder climates, just sayin'

Best of luck to Ice Brady as she moves on from UConn to further her basketball career elsewhere.

Unfortunately her injuries defined much of her UConn career, but one of her finest moments came stepping up during the Big East Tournament in 2024 when others were injured, most notably Aaliyah Edwards.

She played all 40 minutes in the semi final against Marquette, scoring 10 points and grabbing 5 rebounds, in a game where UConn held Marquette to only 29 points. Then, in the Finals against Georgetown, she also played 40 minutes and had 13 points and 8 rebounds. She made the Big East All-Tournament team that year.

Solid play in the NCAAs that year as well, 8 points against USC (including a key basket in the fourth quarter) and 7 points against Iowa.

And then of course the effort that she and Jana gave against Betts in the 2025 Final Four semi-finals.

She earned a National Championship at UConn, and the respect and admiration of both her teammates and the UConn fans. I wish her all the best and hope that she is able to recover over the summer and get on the court for the 2026-2027 season!

Think that Ice Brady posted an X-Tweet or Instagram in March . . . that seemed to be a "thank you" to UConn and fans.

Could be misinformation in my brain. Too many concussions.

Best of luck to Ice Brady in all her future endeavors.

I suspected that Ice might want to go somewhere and prove her skills via more playing time. Still disappointed we never saw the true Ice Brady. When she signed her letter of intent, I was as excited as the day Azzi signed her's. Have a feeling that she will be full speed by early next season and have some All Star level games wherever she goes. All the best to Ice.

I think GA said the best when he was talking about them participating in senior night
He acknowledge that their basketball did not go as they had hoped, but he hope that the rest of their experience was a very positive one and from all of their comments that would seem to be true
I’m sure they’ll both have their degrees and hopefully we’ll be able to have some injury, free seasons and some success on the court
Like you, I feel real sadness for all of the players that suffer
These devastating injuries

Always said to see a player transfer out, but it's understandable why it happens. I'll never forget Ice's BE tourney play and she seemed like a great player/teammate. Sad that her UConn career was also hampered with injuries. I hope she's able to find a new place to be a star.
