Given the state of realignment, I understand why people hope for UCONN to the B1G. As much as I hope that happens, I wish things were different. Truth be told, we fit better athletically with scools in the ACC. That is also where most of our rivals are.
I'd love for this to happen:
1. Get ND out of the ACC. They'll never join the ACC as a full member. If they're not willing to join a conference full time, stop taking up a spot. They are a natural fit for the B1G geographically when they are ready, but until then, get them in with the other Catholic schools where football is not played.
2. Have the ACC invite UConn and Cincinnati and go to 16. You end up with BC, CIN, UCONN, L'VILLE, PITT, SYR, VIR, & VTECH in the ACC North and CLEM, DUKE, FSU, GTECH, MIA, NC, NC ST, WFOR in the ACC south. If needed, switch Vir and Miami to have new/old ACC. That is a conference that makes sense geographically and preserves rivalries. Schools are on par with each other in most sports.
3. Have the B1G, SEC, and PAC get to 16 by splitting the BIG12 however possible that makes geographic sense maintaining rivalries. If 1 conference needs to go to 20 to include all, you do it.
4. You then have 4 power conferences... ACC, B1G, SEC, PAC. Each conference has a championship game.
5. Create an 8 team playoff for football. The 8 are made up of each conference champion (4) and four other wild cards based on some ranking.
To me this makes sense.
