Weeks later and not a word to heard on football’s future. Where are all the P5 teams that were calling to schedule games? You’d think this might be something important for a school so committed to football...to articulate a plan, to define a direction that would help build confidence.

That is not how these things work. It takes a little time to put a contract together, approved by all(in the summer at a university none the less), the other teams conference, etc. Great games are a coming.....

Have you ever been involved in a contract to do anything? A real contract like buy a piece of commercial property or enter into a licensing deal? Scheduling is not like ordering a value meal at Arby’s.

Too soon to expect something. The TV deal is priority #1, but the larger point holds. The AD got everyone's attention with this move. There is a risk/reward in how they handle this. There is a palpable buzz around the future of the program amongst the fanbase and CFB in general. I would hope the announce these games in the most effective way possible. That assumes the games will be significant enough to be worthy of such an announcement.

Holding a press conference to announce we are playing Buffalo and Kent State is going to disappoint a lot of people, even if that should be the realistic expectations for at least 5 of the 8 open dates for 2020.

Given the complexity of needing both a TV contract and to fill eight slots in 2020 which might require rescheduling with at least Maine and /or UMass we might not hear anything for a long while.... like late Sept.

And even in late Sept we might get 1/2 the story (tv deal with say four of eight games announced).

The schools we are hoping to play have a process too.

I dunno. With the right call ... might take weeks to a contract. Why would you make it public prior to that.

The other thing ... this becomes somewhat a Rubiks Cube. One solid date may effect 3 others. So you could find no announcements until 4 or 5 are done. Or the entire schedule

Can’t really announce anything until you have all eight slots filled plus a tv contract.

If just one school is slow with their decision making that holds up the entire process. They probably have it sketched out except that school X can’t sign until administrator Y returns from vacation and school L can’t decide which weekend they will do it until some bogus committee meeting later this month and school K wants a basketball tie in.

AD David Benedict can’t announce anything until all eight dates are set so that he doesn’t get stuck with another rescheduling problem.

Oh and a few of these deals will be multi year.

And doesn’t our board have to approve?

Post-conference meetings, and before gridiron camps open and kids return to school, undoubtedly other schools’ ADs welcome family vacation calls. “Excuse me honey, Jack & Jill, no time for the beach some UConn guy needing games is on priority line 1 ...”

You do know this is true. I’ve been around a University Administration; the July & August months - I imagine even at 30k enrollment - are light days & vacay. Call your VP of Development, they had 2+ weeks off in July.

With cellphones ... more productive. But all the wheels need to be move in good order.

Merely nine (9) days after agreeing expedited AAC exit: good one!
Yes, expecting some well coordinated activity is too much to ask for. Competent planners have a process and engagement plan, not pull sheet out of your rearend as you go along. “Going independent” is not a plan. It’s an act of unaffiliating which necessitates a plan.
