She already has a Blvd named after her between Tampa and ST. Petersburg
When was this made official?

She started playing 5-6 years ago and her skill level has skyrocketed just in the last couple of years while here in the U.S. To go from zero to ranked in such a short period of time is mind boggling. She’s still working hard on her game, including some tutoring by this guy (yes, UConn men’s coach Danny Hurley’s dad). Some parts of her game are a little raw but she’ll have Jana as a teammate so Gandy doesn’t have to be great as a freshman. It’s all goodI am encouraged that she is finally showing up on at least ASGR's top list, and should on others as well. Being shown at 6-6 vs. 6-5 sometimes is equally nice. I always find HS videos of C's the hardest to judge, unless they are going against similar size and talent. The physical skills and mobility suggest a good rebounder and defender. If she can at least finish the easy ones around the basket that would add up to a pretty good Uconn player.
If she can become a go to low post scorer with good passing instincts when doubled, then she could be very special. As a late developing player there is also more reason to believe she may experience more of a jump in her last year in HS before coming to us.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see the 'hook' back in basketball. Surely an art form sorely missed. Doesn't seem like anyone is interested in it in the men's game so let's look to the ladies to bring it back!Gandy is still very much a work in progress.........she runs the floor very well for a big, hits her layups, and has good form on her foul shots..........needs to be more aggressive at both ends of the court but especially on defense..........no real offensive moves or midrange game to speak of but hopefully she'll start to develop those this summer........I tend to think she'll be a defensive/rebounding specialist in her early years at UConn and hopefully will add a baby hook and jumper to her arsenal....
Defense and rebounding is a good place to start. And like you said, she's got another year of development to come before she gets to Storrs.Gandy is still very much a work in progress.........she runs the floor very well for a big, hits her layups, and has good form on her foul shots..........needs to be more aggressive at both ends of the court but especially on defense..........no real offensive moves or midrange game to speak of but hopefully she'll start to develop those this summer........I tend to think she'll be a defensive/rebounding specialist in her early years at UConn and hopefully will add a baby hook and jumper to her arsenal....
Are you aware that Geno likes for his post players to develop an outside shot? It helps to bring the other team's post player out of the lane. They do what the coaching staff tells them to do.I love that she's a bit of a blank canvas. She is going to come in as a close to the basket rebounder and layup maker. A lot of the big's we've brought in fancy themselves as outside shooters who also happen to play inside sometimes. If Gandy could develop into a 10ppg 10rpg players that would be a home run. With work she could be much better than that by the time she is a junior and senior.
Im acutely aware. Im also aware that this philosophy is a failing one. Name the great UConn bigs that utilized the jump shot as a main weapon? Tell me which big had a good jump shot? Charles? Dolson? Lobo? Walters? Stokes? All much better by the basket and all national champions. Are you aware that Geno likes for his post players to develop an outside shot? When they go to the W, big girls need a perimeter shot. See: Tina Charles, Stef Dolson, Napheesa Collier, Swin Cash, et alIm acutely aware. Im also aware that this philosophy is a failing one. But it's not a preferred philosophy to be mostly an outside shooting big if that isn't their strength. He coaches to their strengths. His line is "Do what you are good at." -- Then he eventually gets them to expand their game.Im acutely aware. Im also aware that this philosophy is a failing one. This wasn’t the point, that it be their main weapon. It was that an outside shot would enhance their skill set. We can all name a ton of UConn bigs that utilized the jump shot to open up the lane for others. Rebeccah, Stewie, Katie Lou, Napheesa, Dorka, Aaliyah, and I could go on. We can expect Jana and Sarah to do the same.Im also aware that this philosophy is a failing one. Name the great UConn bigs that utilized the jump shot as a main weapon?
Can you provide the post that said Gandy should be taking 15 footers when she first arrives in which that would be her primary weapon? You're inventing an argument that never existed. At this point you are all making a meaningless point just to try and make a point. Gandy has shown zero ability to shoot a jump shot. Show me one highlight where she is further than 9 feet from the basket. So to all your arguments - good! Let's bring in Gandy and have her start shooting 16 to 19 footers to the tune of 15% shooting. My point is she will be an effective by the basket player. What point are any of you trying to make?
Huh? All the original post said was that Geno would likely encourage her to develop an outside shot. For some reason you’ve been trying to refute or dismiss this thought through various irrelevances. If your point is that she will only ever be good at one thing and will never succeed in developing any other skills, fine. You may be right. But why try to dismiss the thought that a coach might try to develop other skills in her? It’s not a scary thought. At this point you are all making a meaningless point just to try and make a point. For the UConn fans that like to see clips with defense. This is 55 seconds long
I said nothing about using it as a main weapon.Im acutely aware. Im also aware that this philosophy is a failing one. Name the great UConn bigs that utilized the jump shot as a main weapon? True, but she does have 2 consecutive WNBA titles with the Aces and going for their third. She also has 3 consecutive NCAA National Championships. I would say that's not bad for a bench player, wouldn't you?But it's not a preferred philosophy to be mostly an outside shooting big if that isn't their strength. He coaches to their strengths. He got a verbal from Charlie Collier - she would have been a low post monster but the Hurricane in Texas caused her to back away. He was going to have Boston, but SC stole her last minute. There are very few of these type of players. And sorry to say UCONN can't get every #1 - #3 recruit. Other schools have fine programs too. These players come around rarely. We can talk about player's like Betts all we want but where did she lead UCLA this year vs small little non-P5 Storrs UCONN?
In regard to Stokes, she did not have an inside game. She never averaged above 5 ppg.
