I really hope Mullins comes back

Here's a reason why it may be better for Braylon to spend one more year @ Storrs. Also from X

I've seen him mocked pretty consistently in the 15-25 range, but pretty much all in the 1st round. He will definitely declare and test the waters and 99% will enter the draft.

The 1% chance he returns? He was so enamored by Hurley and UConn and last night left such a bitter taste in his mouth he decides to run it back 1 more time to chase a title. I think giving that scenario playing out a 1% chance is being generous too.
Getting over $1 mil in NIL money makes the college experience a lot more palatable. If he is a lower first rounder trying to get to a higher
pick by staying another year this makes staying not as financially punishing as prior to NIL with a potential higher upside as well. Torres podcast went over this in his recent video on Mullins which is worthwhile imo.

If It were 2016, I'd say have at it. Go forth and be fruitful, but NIL makes that less necessary.

Is there a selfish component to Mullins staying? Of course. It's been that way for years decades. I was lucky enough to win the student lottery quite a few times my freshman year and remember fans carrying signs around the Gampel concourse reading, "Please Ray Stay. No NBA," when it was basically a foregone conclusion that Ray Allen was more than ready and was going to jump.
And Ray was in year three.

4-5 million? Wow. I'm not saying he isn't worth it but what is our budget for next year? If we're tying up 4-5m in one guy we are going to blow past that $12m figure I've heard teams will need to be competitive.

I figured our roster would be at least 12m next year but probably no more than 15m
Would love to have the young man back, but is it unfair to remember that he shot 33.5% from 3 this year? We all see the potential there, but it’s not like he had a fantastic season. Which doesn’t change whether we want him back, but it certainly should change how much money he’s worth in the market.

But because he hit “the shot,” he has a real national NIL value that few others will have.

Solo mentioned a few times in recent weeks that he had re-aggravated his shooting hand injury . Was trying to be a good teammate and contribute any way he could. I give him credit for not making excuses. Just kept grinding.
Same with Silas. Lot of dog in these guys. Looking for another leap for both next year.

hurley just said two days ago the calculus on this has changed because of NIL
from the players perspective yes, but the NBA isn't concerned about taking a player that is a little raw when they can just develop them the way the want to in their own development league...Not sure why my post got so many question marks, its pretty common knowledge.

It’s been reported that Mullins was never 100% healthy after the early season injury. It also seemed like he hit the freshman wall down the stretch. I’d still say he had a very successful season. I think with an offseason in the weight room and working on his game he can be a superstar in year 2.

I don't think anyone really knows how any of this works.
I’ve read countless articles and while I understand the AJ Dybantsas of the world’s NIL value and how they make their money, I’m still a bit lost with how Aiden Mahaney (for example) is worth the rumored amount he was paid to be here for one season. Seems like more of a bribe than anything.

Mullins isn't getting 4 million from UConn directly. I am CERTAIN that number is either made up after that Hurley interview or includes projections for national brand deals that have nothing to do with Storrs.
You are correct that this is not direct pay. It’s indirect through NIL collective that is not controlled by the school…in other words boosters.

Not all NIL comes through boosters or the university. I'm confused why it's so hard to get. We're years into this.

When Nike gives Paige Beuckers a deal to promote them on her tiktok, that has nothing to do with UConn.

Braylon will be earning national brand deals.

I thought that the rev share portion was direct pay. How much of that possible $4 million would be 100 percent guaranteed? Who knows. I would think at least 1/2, but I know nothing.

(From what I gather, big east teams have about $20M in rev share to split up amongst their sports. Does that mean $10-15M to men’s basketball?

Not likely when you have a football team

It's like people didn't even watch the NCAA tournament. Every other commercial was UConn players and the Boozer twins.

The Shot, is really going to be marketable.

I hope so because enough money is needed for #1 need- a strong center!

Add a healthy Ball and you’re cooking there

Might as well try to bring the whole band back. Reibe blowing out makes me think Hurley is gonna do his best to get all 5 back. It’s his last chance to have a team built like this as they’re all gone after the year. 3 four year kids is a thing of the past after this one.

Yes, I mean, Invesco and TurboTax's advertising company didn't randomly hit on Solo and Braylon for commercials. I am sure the school was talking to boosters and advertising people and the company itself to make all that happen. It's muddy... and my guess, it will forever be from here on out.

There is a rev share but it’s trickle down. Conferences get the money from the NCAA based upon how far their teams get in tourneys/bowls.

Conferences then give to schools.

Schools per the House deal can pay athletes.

NIL comes to them 2 ways: direct deals and NIL collectives. We all technically can have a NIL deal if a company wants to use our name, image, or likeness. If you are a boneyarder you have a lottery odds of that happening.

Funny though - shady booster used to bring Nile duffel bags of cash and now Nike just signs a shoe deal.

Braylon will get paid by the school, NIL collective and direct NIL deals. $4M seems low though.
