Here is my June 4, 2025, post...where I stated I thought it would be hard to keep this team under 90 points per game...and here we are at 90.1 points per game. I took a lot of heat with people quoting that historically, the low eighties to mid eighties were all we could hope for. Here is the post that I made to Bone Dog:

Bone Dog...that is my point...I don't think this is a stereotypical year. Last year, many players were either injured or just coming back from injury. This year will be different. The addition of Serah, Blanca, and Kaleigh will have an immediate impact on the teams offense. Azzi will hopefully be healthy from the start of the season and will be the number one go-to shooter...she will average far more than 13.5 per game. I believe Sarah Strong will be virtually unstoppable. KK and Shade will regain their freshman-year averages. Jana and Ice will show improvement. Ayanna hasn't played in a year and a half...she will add points to the total.

It is not a question of what I would be happy to see the team average...I would be happy with an undefeated season, which I think they are completely capable of doing. The question is actually quite simple...it is how do you keep this team under 90. I think it is going to be difficult. The only way it happens is if Geno deliberately takes his foot off the gas and uses the 2nd half to work on aspects of the half court offense.

UConn has been very consistent - 16 games out of 19 with 84 or more points and a low of 72. No opponent has reached 70 and UConn has scored 72 or more every time out.

Also, reflecting Geno’s respect for the opponents, there have only been three 100+ games with a high of 104, and no 100+ games since December 7. I would like to see one soon, if not at Georgetown maybe at home next Wednesday against Xavier.

Only one of UConn’s last 14 opponents has scored more than 54 (Iowa, 64).

Dear cferraro04: I give you credit for that
early prediction of 90 ppg! BOLD and, as
of now, correct. I admit that I was an early
doubter of your "perspicacity"! And if
Geno chose not to give time to our extended bench in
the fourth quarter... well..., in brief, kudos! Z

Don't hurt yourself patting yourself on the back. lol
Lots of season left... tho with lots of BE patsies.
I suppose that's really the point. When I replied back then, I wasn't looking at the schedule and was merely thinking about a generic season. But the BE schedule is precisely why @cferraro04 was right. Looking at this season, a scoring average ~90/game looks likely, even more so given the depth of scorers this year. We are a very difficult team to keep down.

.-.
UConn against top teams will have a shorter bench therefore the starters will see more time which could lead to scoring more points. Geno has had the bench in much earlier due to the blowouts and UConn is still averaging 90+ pts.

Geno has set the bar at another level with his defense. The defense with its turnovers and steals has led UConns scoring average and opponents scoring average to be what they are.

After Uconn ran the table during the title run, and with the addition of Serah, Blanca and Kaliegh, I predicted 100 points a game. BUT, I'm happy with 90+.I don't believe in jinx's as I have been saying all this season, Uconn will be undefeated this season, so NC 13. I have been hoping that Geno would let Sarah loose and score 50 points which she is capable of doing just for the hell of it. GO HUSKIES!!!!!

Slight swerve on the dependence on defense for our offense: it makes for lots of transition scores -- which is great -- but because we overplay and take lots of chances on defense, opponents occasionally get some easy backdoor cuts or open perimeter looks. That's the cost of doing business this way, and I think it's a very good tradeoff given our overall team cohesion. Those openings we give opponents are few and outweighed by a large margin by all the steals and turnovers we force. There's also a season long trajectory to this -- by tournament time, team cohesion could well be peaking, and then back door cuts will be rarer for opponents, and closeouts on perimeter shooters will be even sharper. This is how it played out across last season, and we should see the same thing this season.

Any team that averages more than 90 points a game for a season is a statistical anomaly as it does not happen often as I have posted about this numerous times.

This team has a chance for a few reasons:
1. The team is highly efficient with their shots-both regular Field Goal percentage and 3 pt shooting
2. Even in the blow out Big East games in the 4th quarter, the reserves are showing good half court offense with both K9 and Kelis getting the team going or taking the ball to the hoop themselves.

I know Geno is reluctant to admit anything during a season he is trying to achieve something but I honestly believe this team 1-15 on the roster is one of his most talented teams ever if not his most talented team. I am not saying that lightly but in consideration of all the players from 1 to 15 who are extremely talented. Now, they need to finish the season the way they have started it but I like their chances…

That last part is insane. This is one of the best defensive teams ever.

I forget. (I’m old) Could Paige have stayed one more year?

It's particularly impressive considering the fact that most of the starters play less than 3/4 of the available minutes. This team could easily be averaging 100 points a game if that was the objective.

I forget. (I’m old) Could Paige have stayed one more year?
Paige was already mentally gone and ready for the next level leading to the W's Rookie of the Year. Can't imagine how frustrated and bored she would be playing against the BE teams. Right now she is exactly where she needs to be.

I forget. (I’m old) Could Paige have stayed one more year?
Yes, she had one more year available because of the covid exemption for 2020-21.
