I Know the AP Poll Doesn’t Matter, But…..

This week…. #2 Iowa loss to #18 OSU, #3 Colorado loss to #5 UCLA, #4 NC State loss to unranked Miami and #6 USC loss two games to #20 Utah and then #3 Colorado.

Colorado did lose by 8 to UCLA, but then made up for it today with the 4 point victory over #6 USC. So, I think Colorado will hold the 3 spot in the top 10. My projections:

1. SC- No explanation
2. UCLA- Moves up 3 spots after win over Colorado and with both Iowa and NC State losing
3. Colorado- Loss to UCLA, but beat USC
4. Stanford- Quality wins this week over Oregon and Oregon State. Give Tara her most wins win. Moves ups by default
5. Kansas St.- Took a hit this week with Ayoki Lee going down with foot injury and out for a month, but showed they can win without her with win on Kansas
6. Uconn- Up 3 spots with a Dominant 12 game winning streak
7. Iowa- Falls 5 sports after loss to OSU
8. LSU- Convincing wins over Alabama and Arkansas
9. Texas- Continues to find their footing without Rori, but got two good wins this week vs Kansas and Oklahoma St
10. Baylor- Moves up by default

Again, I know rankings are subjective, but based off of this week I think this is how it shakes out tomorrow.

I doubt NC State falls from #4 out of the top 10 entirely. In fact I'll be surprised if they drop below UConn.

I'll be very surprised if USC is dropped below Baylor, so soon after Baylor lost to two mediocre teams last week and barely beat UCF at home.

Iowa's loss at OSU in overtime may not drop them as low as you think it will. We'll see.

I predict UConn will be #8 in tomorrow's AP poll tomorrow when all the dust settles.

I think Ohio State gets into the Top 10... they might jump UConn in the Coaches Poll. Apparently a few voting coaches use illegal substances.

No way that NC State drops out of the top 10.

It all depends on if you are ranking based off actually what’s happened to date or if you are also projecting trends.

To me if it’s based on results, NC State should remain in the top 10. They have very quality wins over UConn and Colorado - both by double figures as well as FSU. Only 2 loses, both happened while River Baldwin was out, and one was a game against VT on the road where they led 95% of the way and lost on a last second shot. Miami on the road is for sure an ugly blemish, but the overall resume is still strong.

Now who would be favored in a game if we are debating who is better, NC State or LSU, UConn, Baylor, USC, Texas etc - that’s up for debate.

With the way UConn has devastated teams like no other team in WCBB they are playing like a top 2 team. With 3 losses to top teams before they were rebuilt. Now we hear reasons why teams are loosing games because of injuries. LOL UConn has 5 key injuries and has been rebuilt by the Greatest Coach in WCBB and now hasnt lost a game since. This week against Marquette and ND they will show the WCBB world why Geno and UConn are the Greatest of All Time.

Whatever else happens, the voters can't keep Iowa at #2 or USC at #6.

• UCLA is a persuasive #2.
• And who at #3? Stanford? It makes a certain amount of sense, though it's not entirely persuasive either. But who else? LSU? That doesn't seem right, and yet, the voters may default to old prejudices once the data gets confusing.
• I can see Iowa - K St - Texas - LSU in the 4-7 slots.
• USC - UConn - Baylor in the 8-10 slots?

I can't do any better than that, since this entire enterprise is about guessing what people whose judgment we don't respect will choose.

Voters don’t do this depth of analysis- it’s a beauty contest. If voters can find some kind of justification for ranking teams they like higher, they will.

UConn wasn't all that competitive in any of the three losses they had early in the season so I think the voters will move on them more patiently than usual, at least until they play ND. The Big East is really not very good after UConn and the blowout wins don't help UConn as much as you would think.

UConn right now is a solid top 5-6 team and can beat any team they match up with. As much as they need Ice to step up she just isn't quite there yet and they need at least 7or 8 players to ensure the rotation gets all of them a break now and then. They have been playing outstanding against the teams on the schedule but their NCAA Seed will come down to two games ND and SC.

The Huskies are 8-0 in the Big East and have won 12 games in a row overall. Admittedly, their Big East games have been snooze fests, but that's not UConn's fault. The Huskies are used to dominating conference play, whether in the "old" Big East, the American (where they literally never lost) or in the "new" Big East.
