The BE failed because of Mike Tranghese's incompetence and ineptitude, not some master contrived plan @ ESPN.

In the late 90s, early 2000s when football was becoming increasingly significant the BE needed to go all sports with a smaller, focused league and instead they expanded in the wrong direction and subsequently collapsed. ESPN didn't make those bad decisions.
