I feel terrible for Liam

Liam is fine...he missed a whole month & that's part of the reason the team has been so erratic. Liam can shine in Feb / Mar and team can still make a run, wtf knows. NBA scouts already know what he is and he'll be drafted in top 15 of NBA draft.

He tweaked that ankle late and they covered him like a blanket. In fact crappy Seton Hall D’ed up on inbounds yesterday, had strong guard play, and benefitted from errors which we have to fix. But they are fixable IMO.

If McNeeley put up 30 something in the Seton Hall game and lost, I might feel bad for him. He didn't have a great game on either end. He was 5-14 from the field and his defense was not good. He also had 6 turnovers.

I love his game and fiery attitude, but let's not act like his game wasn't part of the problem.

Still, if yesterday was Karaban breaking the slump game, UConn is going to be a tough out.
 
There’s 2 factors here:

1) Yes, he will probably be disappointed the team isn’t a powerhouse final four contender this year…especially with the B2B hype and attention the program received. Still, I feel worse for Ace Bailey & Harper.

2) He came here because he gets coached by the best in the sport and will be/is undoubtedly better than he was coming in, improving his draft stock. We’ve heard numerous NBA scouts/execs saying they pay a lot of attention to Danny’s ability to develop NBA ready players(and mindsets) better than most.

If you’re a top level recruit, number 2 matters much more than number 1, imo.
 
Keep in mind he flipped his commitment from Indiana to UConn. So as bad as a year as we are all feeling like this is for UConn....this is an infinitely better situation than Liam would have had at IU this year with Woodson.:eek:

And while this team can absolutely lose in the first round of the tournament, we could also just as easily get on a heater and make run to the second weekend and challenge for an upset F4 bid with this team. That is the maddening part of this team.

If Liam becomes THOR for the tournament, Karaban gets on a heater (we all know he is streaky and is coming off of a historically bad cold spell), Diarra can heal up and even get close to 90% of the player he was earlier this year before the injury (high assist, low TO, elite defense), Ball gets back to being a 40% 3PT shooter as a third options shooter with Liam and Karaban hitting, and we get back to non-BE reffing in the tourney---then we are team that no one is going to want to see in their bracket.

Having said that, with this team, we can also just as easily get embarrassed by 20 points in the first round. That is the frustrating part of this team--high ceiling and low floor for sure.

Let’s all look at this team vs last year, not from a talent level, but a desire to win level. Other than Liam, Diarra and Alex, this team doesn’t have the fire. Alex said this yesterday. “We don’t show up for some games.” By fire, I don’t mean the overly demonstrative emotional Yes, Cam and Clingan had it, but Tristen, Steph, Alex didn’t let up. This year’s team is soft. Alex verbalized this and Danny called the performance soft. There’s no more proof of this that winning at Creighton and Marquette and losing to the Hall and much less talented teams. I think it’s about heart, not talent.

I made that trip for last years game. I t was the only game I saw in person last year., same immense pain and suffering.

He's a big boy. The 'skies are making the Tournament. They'll go deep, too.
 
This is lame.
Liam solidified his draft status and he most certainly will make the tournament.

Flagg is going #1 or #2. Liam is going no worse than #15 but hes already been injured and the risk of a worse injury next year would be catastrophic to his financial security of the first round.
I just hope he didn’t tweak his ankle late in the Hall game.
 
I don't feel sorry for anyone who has the talent to get NIL money and play college hoops. He is damn lucky and I'm sure he knows it.

Yeah I suppose but of all the players in the floor, I fault him the least.
 
Hard to feel bad for Liam - he’s already done what he needs to here and shown a couple plus games to scouts. He’ll be sitting on a trunk of cash in a few months, hopefully thanks to the Spurs and I finally have an NBA team to pull for.

Would be nice to get him a little legacy here to stay connected to the program in a meaningful way. Missing 8 games to a flame out in the tourney would be a pretty partial experience to the likely expectations for him and fans. Would feel Drummond-esque.
