We have to accept and pay for the coach. We had him at the first two years at a discount. All he has done is win and recruit great players to keep us great. The state has no mens pro team's. This is it--you pay what is fair for it.

WTF are you talking about? They are working hard on a deal- that's what I've heard. This horse is a dead bloated corpse.

The title of the thread "They can't get a reasonable deal done for Ollie?" implies that Warde, et al. are sitting on their collective asses about to lose Ollie to the Lakers or to some other college team that will pay him what he's worth. I'm with Rock and Scot - seems way premature for a thread with that headline...

No one would make a topic like this with nothing but wild assumptions to bolster it, so I anxiously await his details and insights from the negotiations.

Well there is this from Borges today: "NBA team could ‘come hard’ at UConn coach Kevin Ollie soon"
Doesn't name a team or tell us much of anything, but does indicate this is still a somewhat active concern.

Story says: "It’s not any of the 'obvious' teams (the Knicks, Lakers or Warriors)" -- meaning what? Utah?

Obviously alluding to OKC, Ollie isn't going anywhere though.

The obvious team is Oklahoma.

You'd think, but a team that has a not-insignificant chance to win a title this year might want to hold off. What, they're going to offer Ollie a job and then Brooks brings home a championship?

how is the obvious team OKC when they're still in the playoffs?

If Ollie leaves because a deal couldn't get done here, Warde needs to be fired on the spot.

Some people here are taking this too lightly. This man has earned his 3mm per year--pay him asap or we might just be looking at a disaster worse than being banned for one year. This man will lead Uconn for a generation and were lucky to have him. You make the money available even if it costs the college not having anew practice facility---K>O = Uconns most important asset by far. Hes worth 30mm over 10.

And how do you know that Warde hasn't offered him exactly that and KO is just waiting to see if the Lakers offer him $4M/year?

Warde is on the clock. I hope he isn't a Tim Cook at Apple and indecisive. Pay him. U have a rockstar. Take care of him asap.

It's easy to blame Warde for everything, but I think the main hold up is that KO has a genuine interest in the NBA. I would be shocked if we later find out WM didn't offer him a minimum 2.6 mill

If we lose KO to Cleveland I'm changing my Alumni affiliation. :)

Not going to happen!

10 years 30mm will trump a lot of NBA offers.

No news here in Cleveland - KO wouldn't come in even if they trade Kyrie away for big man, draft Napier, get Daniels in 2nd round. Cleveland is a fun place - but it's SPORTS HELL! Don't coach / play here.

Per Dom:

"Ollie would have to pay UConn $2.55 million if he were to leave now — and whether such a large buyout clause should be included in a new UConn contract appears to be a sticking point, rather than years and money."
