That was a good game yesterday and pretty exciting. Throughout the 4th quarter folks left in droves.

I stayed with my daughter to watch the song at the end of the game. We walked out to our car and we were on the street about 10 minutes after getting to our car.

I honestly don't get it.

Stayed to End, got out the grill afterward, & cooked kellies & brats. left 1 hour post game. Won't be too harsh on those that left early due to the following external factors:
1. post marathon traffic at the 84-91 interchange- even saw an idiot that tried to pass one of the cruisers escorting the Cinci buses on the right to try to beat the buses to the I-91 entrance ramp. Moron
2. those who were lucky enough to be pulling the football-hockey doubleheader
3. Storm front approaching at game's end.

Just nuts that against a solid in-conference opponet in Cincy we can't even draw 30K out to the Rent. I know the marathon and weather, and early start may have thrown off some folks, but come on.

I honestly don't get threads like this. Knocking the people who show up to games is silly just because they don't live up to your superfan status.

I've never stayed for the song once and I'm a grad. Nice job by you though. Here's a cookie.

I'm mulling a lengthier post on it, but it's really super simple. We've had 5 years of very uninspired football and the casual fans that we desperately need back have all checked out. You don't get them back overnight. Blaming them for being fair weather accomplishes zilch. Sustained success over time is the only way to get them back.

Someone mentioned that games on CBS Sports Net have a ton of breaks a few weeks ago.

It sure felt like it - that was a brutally long game for the amount of scoring and some of the breaks felt neverending.

The answer is yes, people in CT are busier and have other activities (e.g. kids' karate, soccer, piano lessons etc) on weekends compared to folks at say Nebraska who block off the whole day for football.
Some day @junglehusky some day... Hey, we can dream! Right?

There was also a huge high school cross country invitational at Wickham Park in Manchester. That's where I was with my daughter, unfortunately. The early kickoff made it difficult to be in both places. There were a lot of folks in UConn garb at the event though.....myself included. I listened to half of the game on my phone. Got home a few minutes into the second half.

That was me. I was at the game on Saturday. The first four changes of possession in the first quarter were tv timeouts. No flow to the game when you have that many breaks.

so lets get this straight. Your argument for why people leave our games early is that people in Connecticut have kids that play sports on weekends and take piano lessons but people in states that attend the games such as Nebraska do not have these things to worry about? Is this serious?

That distinction is something we should be proud of in my opinion. It's not something we should aspire to be. People out there and down south put college football before their families. Literally.

See my last post. They do have those concerns. Their priorities are just whack.

If people don't like or care about football why would they go? If you love it like me and some of us you go but you can't get on people who don't care that's like someone saying why don't 40,000 people go to the Hartford symphony

Those CBS Sportsnet games take forever. 3 1/2 hours plus for this game. It's funny how it picked up tempo towards the end when the network had to get to the Houston Navy game. I did stay to the end though and enjoyed it thoroughly.

I will say this. Run the ball and the clock moves quicker. Too many passes when it was time to wind down the clock.

Yeah, we don't run the ball enough. That's it. Nailed it.

They just need to start winning on a consistent basis for folks in this state to jump on the band wagon and fill the Rent. Same thing was happening with basketball before Calhoun made them a regularly top 25 ranked squad. People in this state will back a winner so give them one.

Being demoted out of the BCS is still part of the equation unfortunately. The quality of play in the AAC is good and is equal to the old Big East but I think the casuals don't see it that way. Getting the season ticket base to a higher number is really important and DB saw that immediately.

Maybe not, but he's probably got a pop Warner football game too. They're all between 10am and 2pm

Kids don't play youth football in Nebraska or the south? I'm not complaining about our attendance just the fact that people on here put the state of CT as a whole on a pedestal like its some mecca.

I'd rather get bad mouthed by a bunch of message board lunatics for being a bad fan that disappoint my kids by being a bad father. But that's just me.
Most kids don't enjoy being a spectator, they want to play. So yeah, it may not be karate, but if Tommy gets to participate, rather than spectate, that's where he'd rather be. I've introduced my kids to UConn football. They don't enjoy it. So I go to games when I can, I bring them sparingly, and if I choose to bring them to something they're interested in over UConn football, then I'd rather be a bad fan than a bad parent. People, especially those without kids, who judge others that make that decision, are a special type of @--hole.

This premise that people need an excuse to do something other than be at a UConn football game is precious. People aren't interested, and short of a couple bigger name opponents, they haven't been given a reason to be interested in 5 long years. It's not just kids with events, it's not just other things to do, it's not just the comfort of watching from home. People have said it repeatedly. It's a terrible team in a mediocre conference that isn't fun to watch. When we start winning 8-9 games a year, people will come back. If we do that while adding bigger names to the schedule we'll see sell outs again. People don't care about playing Houston no matter what they're ranked.
