I can’t root for Santa this year.

It pains me to say this, but for the 1st time I can’t be a fan of old Saint Nick this year. I’ll still leave out milk and cookies, but this wacky sleigh ride of a holiday season has turned me off. I do think other people should celebrate, and I’ll still watch A Christmas Story on TBS 12 times in a row. I just can’t take all the humbuggery and the defense of the Grinch and being against reindeer flying.

Screw Christmas it's all about Christmas eve and the 7 fishes

Just 1 fish this year. 7 is way too many for a couple septuagenarians eating alone. No Wigilia with 18 or 20 people (and an extra place set for any stranger who might stop by) and a dozen assorted meatless dishes. We'll settle for a couple pieces of tautog saved from a late season trip, just for this meal, some potato pancakes and pierogis. Sister-in-law mailed everyone some opłatek, so we've got that to look forward to, but without the crowd to exchange it among, it seems kind of pointless.
Funny, even though I don't care much for half the traditional foodstuffs served, the traditional Polish Christmas Eve meal is one of my favorite holiday get togethers. I'm really going to miss it this year. When 8 of the usual participants are in their 70s, it just doesn't seem like a good idea to get together for it this year.
