Well, they’re just looking for Mr. right. Some people used to call me acute one.
Well, they’re just looking for Mr. right. Some people used to call me acute one.
I don’t think that the fan base ever looked collectively at our teams in 2011 and 2014 and talked National title in November.
^ Post #69.This thread is so silly. Bunch of fan girls.
You make some really good points but let me offer one counter point.Don't think you are quite remembering just how dominant the 98-99 and 03-04 teams really were.
1998-99 started 19-0 in a time when our teams basically jumped right into Big East play after a handful of non-conference games. They beat No. 15 Washington by 21 and came back and beat No. 9 Michigan State by 14 four days later in their two biggest non-conference games.
But if you like crushers of spirits, 2003-04 is the team and it isn't all that close. They did what this year's team is doing so far to every team they played outside of Duke DURING the NCAAA tournament.
The ONLY question about that team in November was if Mek's back was going to be OK. He tried to play through back spasms in that first G-Tech game and it was a disaster, but outside of that game the team started 14-0 and beat No. 6 Oklahoma 86-59. I repeat, they beat the No. 6 team in the country 86-59 -- and they beat a top-10 Cuse team 84-56 a couple months later. They won non-conference games by scores of 111-64, 104-54, 101-62.
They had two first-team All-Americans, six first-round draft picks and a nine-deep that looked like this: Okafor, Boone, Rashad, Ben Gordon, Denham Brown, Taliek Brown, Charlie V., Hilton Armstrong, Marcus Williams.
This team is a lot of fun, but when Mek was healthy, that '03-04 team is one of the greatest teams in recent college basketball memory. This year's squad isn't there yet.
My least favorite post. You didnt have to go into such long winded detail just to say this is your favorite team. Cool. I love this team too but its not my favorite.
I wasn't even sure I was in the right room. This thread is so silly. Bunch of fan girls.
I remember that Louisville game where UConn just absolutely shredded their pressure defense.
Favorite stat from that game, and one I’ll always remember, is UConn got the win without even hitting a three. Insane. The Louisville game stands out in my mind as well. One of the best performances on the road vs a highly ranked opponent that I can remember.
No change, favorite team. Although I said by a mile before and now maybe 2014 is closeJust curious if people still feel this way. I remember thinking it was a little early for something like this but I guess people can feel however they want. Just wanted to know if anyone has changed their mind.
Never claimed. So, no.Just curious if people still feel this way. I remember thinking it was a little early for something like this but I guess people can feel however they want. Just wanted to know if anyone has changed their mind.
I'm more curious how he feels about AJ now. Boatright level on ball defense?? My word was that off........I'm pretty sure I could head-fake myself past Andre right now.Just curious if people still feel this way. I remember thinking it was a little early for something like this but I guess people can feel however they want. Just wanted to know if anyone has changed their mind.
Of course they don't feel that way. This was a ridiculous thread to begin with that aged about as bad as it possibly could have. The OP should feel foolish.Just curious if people still feel this way. I remember thinking it was a little early for something like this but I guess people can feel however they want. Just wanted to know if anyone has changed their mind.
It was ridiculous because it was way too early to say that about the team. Conference play has a way of humbling teams that looked like the best in the country in November and December. Now having said that, there is no way in hell I thought UConn would lose 6-8 and be under 0.500 in BE play.Of course they don't feel that way. This was a ridiculous thread to begin with that aged about as bad as it possibly could have. The OP should feel foolish.
What are you guys like 20 years old??? I’ll take 2011 hands down ( the opposite of this team with a true leader and a hof coach followed very closely by 2014. If you are 20, ya would have been 10. But If you are 30, spare me, both under performed during the regular season 2011 ( Kemba ) mirrors this team as far as regular season won an early season tournament vs big east Conference record of 9-9), and both came together and surprised/ shocked all of us 2011 with an 11 game winning streak to end the season ( a record that will probably never be broken ) and 2014 team lost to Louisville 3x including a 30-40 point blowout loss ( they had Shabazz/ Boatright ) but ended up wining our last NC. I just don’t see anything remotely close happening with this team, ( and those teams had some of the most likable loyal UConn players ever to wear a UConn uniform.). Hope I’m wrong but I don’t see anything from the coaches on down to give me much hope of this ending well never mind accomplishing what those teams did. Rant over. As I said before I really want to be wrong but I’ve seen nothing to indicate anything but another disappointing ending. The last 2 seasons ended th way this season is playing out. Other teams scout UConn and come prepared with a game plan designed to give them the best chance of winning, we just come out flat, unenthusiastic and run the same game plan we’ve been running for 5 years, don’t believe me ? Go watch last year’s tournament game against NMST. We had arguably the better team and we lost as a 5 seed.I know. Hyperbole? I don’t think so.
I was 8 for the dream season. I remember the entire state seemed to stop that March.
I loved the run and gun teams of the mid 90. Doron’s Hail Marys.
I hugged @okaforprez sr as Khalid and crew shocked the world.
I was in school for Mek, Ben and Shad. I love that team. I had the cops called on me by my downstairs neighbors when Shad broke Washington’s Heart (again).
But this team. I think it’s my favorite team ever.
It starts with AJ. He does everything I love most about the game of basketball well. He’s a cheat code. He’s the monstars version of doron in the open court. He has pass options other players simply don’t see or can’t make.
He plays Boatright level on ball defense. He smiles (and leads) like Kemba. He Yams like Rudy and Stix. He’s an amalgamation of all of my favorite players of the past.
Joey Coldcuts. He’s like a college basketball Rudy Rutiger. 5 foot nothin, 100 hundred and nothin. He shouldn’t belong on the court at this level. But we’re running plays for him with 2 on the shot clock so he can hit fade away threes falling into the bench? Stop it Coldcuts. But don’t stop it Coldcuts.
Hawk? Baby Ray? You can love him for his quick butter release, but give me his swag block off the glass for a shot clock violation on D.
Not enough for you? How about a 7’ 2” hometown true frosh who plays like a 5th year senior. Never brings the ball down below his head. Plays physical. Makes the outlet immediately. Drop steps. Mek was an offensive robot as a freshman. I am @OkaForPrez I can say that. This kid is once a generation.
Karaban is getting Nadav comps.
Nadav.
Comps.
That’s a bit generous but he’s at worst a Junior giff 8 games in.
We’re 7 players in guys. I haven’t mentioned our pre season All American.
The guy with the triple double.
The NYC guard who dogs you on D and loves buzzer beaters.
The scoop shot lefty.
And they all blend. Highest assist rate team we’ve had in how long. Ever?
They don’t turn it over.
They guard.
They hit FTs.
They Board.
Stop it. I’m calling it. It’s my favorite team ever and the sooner you figure out it’s yours the sooner you can truly enjoy it.
This hasn't aged well. LOL! I think it is my least favorite team besides the KO ones that were just mind numbing to watch.I know. Hyperbole? I don’t think so.

Ron was the 4. Tony Budzinski was the 5. That was the year after Bill Corley. 1968.I've been a fan since we had a 6"5' white center named Ron Hrubala. Bob Staak, Bob Boyd, listened to the games on the radio. I was like 10.
I love so many of the teams and their runs. All our championships were great. Caron Butler still my all time favorite player, a man's man
But with a gun to my head, the GOAT is the Dream Season. Because it was just that, a dream. I will forever be greatful for my avatar
