I don't see JC leaving on a down note

and if anyone has to answer for and endure a post season ban, he will make sure he's the one

I doubt he's going anywhere

I want him to reach another final four. I want the haters forced to witness his greatness one more time after unjustly dragging through the mud......twice.

Based on the last few months, I find myself coming to the conclusion that we’ve seen the Jim Calhoun coach his last game. I hadn’t felt this way until recently. My reasoning is:

1. Health – No doubt he’s a tough guy, but two major surgeries take a toll. No one would blame him if he retired now.

2. Successor – JC has completely won the PR battle with Manuel. There will be no better time for JC to get his way than now. If he calls it a career, it’s Ollie’s job. All the pieces have been put in place: the great press he’s getting out on the recruiting trail, the testimonies from Allen and other former players, the respect given to him by recruits. Manuel wouldn’t dare to hire anyone else. Ollie’s a no risk hire for him. If Ollie fails, it’s not on him. If Manuel’s guy doesn’t make it, he could be out the door with him.

3. Recruiting – The uncertainty is hurting recruiting. The sooner we make the switch, the better chance we can keep the good players coming in. Keeping the players coming is vital for the next point.

4. Legacy – Not just JC’s, UConn’s. The legacy for both going forward would be for Ollie to be a success. UConn would show that they are a true program, not just the beneficiary of an all-time great coach. There would be no better time for KO to step-up to HC than this year. A year that doesn’t count, a year where mistakes would be learning opportunities, not potential season killers. It would put Ollie in the best position for him to succeed. One of Calhoun’s strengths was turning negatives into positives. This would be another example.

Next season is going to suck, no doubt. Does JC really need the aggravation and BS it will bring, especially on the road? A new coach would give this season a bit of juice. It could be a great transition year for the fans – Honoring the great HOF coach while rooting for one of his most beloved players taking the reins. All the while giving the NCAA the middle finger.

.

You're wrong. There is absolutely no way JC goes out with a walker and a post season ban. No Chance. None. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Unless it is to give KO a chance that he might not otherwise get, then I could see it.

Of course, we all want another final four. But your second sentence contains a great deal of denial. The kind that leads to Penn State-type situations.

I think that's more than a bit of an over-dramatic leap.

The inappropriate contacts that resulted in a finding of lack of institutional control have since been deemed appropriate by the NCAA.

It is undisputed that the APR issue for which we are presently being punished is one: (a) that resulted from a standard that was applied retroactively, at a time that was mathematically impossible for us to satisfy it; (b) for which we were already punished; and (c) that we have since corrected.

Hardly the same solar system as covering up the forced rape of young boys, allowing it to continue for years.

I think you're making the over-dramatic leap. My reply was to the comment "haters forced to witness his greatness one more time after unjustly dragging through the mud......twice." That's the comment of someone denying that the coach did anything wrong despite evidence to the contrary. I agree that the "wrongs" here aren't in the same solar system, but the fans denial of the coaches culpability is similar.

Coach has made some minor transgressions. Other big name coaches have made far more significant transgressions and escaped any punishment whatsoever. JC is now being called dirty due to the APR issue, which is bunk. He is said to pay players because Yahoo erroneously reported the Nate Miles situation and because Gary Williams publicly called JC a cheater over the Rudy Gay commitment. This, despite the fact that it was completely legal to set up the Beltway Baller game and Gary Williams often used the exact same strategy in recruiting. JC has been villified over a few text messages and a crappy academic support system. I'm not in denial, its a dirty business and JC plays the game, but he has been completely villified for seemingly minor offenses.

This.

I read the OP to be referring to the two punishments that were unjust; i.e., the "lack of institutional control," which mostly resulted from text-message contacts that are now permitted, and the current post-season ban, which, as I stated, is undeniably unjust, in that it was based on an APR standard that was designed so that it was impossible for us to meet it by the time it was implemented, and for which we had already been punished--and corrected the issue with our present numbers.

One doesn't need Husky-colored glasses to see that both of those NCAA punishments were BS and unjust; nor to observe JC's greatness. To think otherwise requires anti-UConn bias imo, and yeah, I'd love to have JC ring the bell one more time and see these people go ballistic.

I don't think KO getting his chance has anything to do with JC leaving now. If anything, the more time that KO has to learn under JC and develop his relationship with the new AD, the more chance KO has of getting the job.

I can see this one going either way, but there are definitely some things he would want to come back for. For one, as someone mentioned it, the career wins. The guy is on the brink of passing some of the all time names on the win list. Guys like Bobby Adolph Rupp, Dean Smith and Bobby Knight. That means something to Calhoun. The guy is a serial name dropper, being on top of those names means something.

Seeing through the practice facility.

Passing off a clean baton.

So for some selfish reasons, some unselfish, I could see him squeezing out the motivation to get back. I personally think it's time for him to go, it's going to start feeling like Brett Favre holding on at some point soon. It's been a scary health trend and things look no better and another hiatus and Blaney stepping in will be one of the most nauseating dejavu's imagineable. Let the new generation hit the recruiting trail with a clean slate.

I see you went with a little bold to emphasize your point on the "unjust issue". UConn has set the precedent on reciting the fact there is liberty and justice for all in this country. It will be almost comical next year before all the home basketball games when the pledge is recited by the husky faithful. In UConn land regardless of how you are treated there will always be justice for all. Just depends on how you define justice and in what circumastances right?

When Calhoun held up the NCAA rule book and literally mocked it... that was just a guy who thought he was invincible. Unless JC/Ollie start getting some players (a couple 5***** Iverson, XRM) for his last contract year the only bell that will be ringing is the bell that goes something like this "Ring a Ding Dong...instead of ring a ding ding.

After all ringing a bell properly takes timing, control and co-ordination.

JMHO ;)

I don't see the health issues lots of other people see. He's old so he gets sick sometimes but then he gets well. He hurt his hip riding a bike race, not by tripping over his walker. I understand that injuries wear on one more when they're older but that's Calhoun's judgment call. Aside from being old he's fit as a fiddle and seemingly still full of energy and drive.
