Huskies in the Pros (Baseball)

Great to see. I'll add a link for him once the season gets going. Right now there's a baseball reference page for Anthony Marzi but it has no info on it (not even bat/throw hand) so I don't know if that will actually be his page or not. I'll make sure to bump the thread when I update it.

Just added a link to the OP with all of UConn's drafted players. Pretty cool page on Baseball Reference that I didn't know about. You can go year by year, team by team, school by school etc.

How long can Springer keep abusing his body for? Seems like every night there's a new clip of him making a great play but completely wrecking himself.

Links updated with Cross and Siena. Still waiting on McDowell.

Mazz has done OK so far this year. .683 OPS in AA so far this year at 24 years of age. Not exactly setting the world on fire but if he continues to improve he should at least be given his shot in the bigs next year.

He's going to be stuck behind Dilson Herrera who is 3 years younger and has MLB experience (with mixed results) and has typically raked in the minors. If the Mets end up keeping Murphy (having a mediocre year so his trade value is basically zero and his price tag is going to be lower than expected in the offseason), that doesn't leave any room for Mazz at 2B. Could be part of a minor trade or a minor part of a major trade. Regardless, I hope he gets his shot.

Olt is buried behind Bryant and can't even move to 1B because of Rizzo. Hopefully he can keep up the hitting in AAA and the Cubs can deal him to a team that wants to give him a shot, whether it be this week or in the offseason.

me and my buddies are hoping he gets traded to the mets. But now they have uribe

He has the potential to stick somewhere, but he probably only has a 2 year window before teams will stop giving him a chance. The Mets already have a similar type bat in Flores (could probably hit 20 homeruns but hasn't shown the ability to hit for average) and he's 3 years younger than Olt. Of course Olt is a superior defender but he's also a career .158 hitter.

Don't get me wrong though, I'd love nothing more than to see an infield of Olt, Mazzilli, and Siena all succeeding for the Mets. Just don't think it's in the cards. Of course now that they added a 2B and 3B there's no room at all in the infield so it's moot anyway.

Meanwhile, Mazz is doing alright at AA and will probably at least get a shot at some point in the next year or two due to injury or September call ups. Siena continues to hit for average but has shown no power (40 hits in 128 at bats but only 3 XBH - all doubles). His strikeout rate is pretty low so hopefully he can figure things out a bit and find a way to start putting line drives in the gaps.

Per MLB.com's transactions page, John Andreoli is a non-roster invitee to big-league camp with the Cubs.

I see Anthony Kay is one of a few 1st Round picks, who remains unsigned. Any ideas if the Mets are offering below slot?

Any chance he returns?

By chance the Connecticut Tigers are playing at Brooklyn tonight, the Mets farm club in the New York-Penn League, and we are listening to the broadcast. At one point tonight Chris Jones talked a bit about Anthony Kay. Basically, he said that Kay has not signed yet, but all signs point to Kay eventually signing on with the with the Mets before the signing deadline on July 15.

Even before Chris Jones said that, I would have been very surprised if Kay returned to UConn for his senior year. There is simply too much money that Kay would have to leave on the table if he were not to turn pro.
