Hurricane Irene has extended her viscious tendrils as far north as Northern Essex County Massachusetts.

The first bands of rain have hit, and the driveway is positively strewn with dampness and puddles.

Not 10 minutes ago a glass fell from its perch in the cabinet in the kitchen, falling and shattering on the floor. (I have confirmation from my son that it wasn't him....so it was clearly the storm).

And then, when the vacuum cleaner was being obtained form its storage place, teh cabinet door came off its hinges....clearly hurricane related.

We are compiling our list and I am looking online for where FEMA has set up shop locally....

I am anxious to hear how my fellow yarders are faring!

I was playing poker, and my pocket aces were cracked by 2 4 off suit. Hurricane related for sure. I wonder if my homeowners insurance will make me whole?

Downtown NYC is all but evacuated. I stayed cause I don't feel like going anywhere. Anyways this is a view of the water along the West Side Highway. The water is hella high... I would say only around 4 - 5 feet of slippage and when the storm surge + tide rushes in downtown is going to be underwater.

So....the tail of the rain has just passed us by....and the maximum punch of the storm seems to have been absorbed.
The damage total at the prankster domicile includes:
1. A glass that my son claims he didn't knock over (thus storm damage) broke in the kitchen
2. A cabinet door came off its hinges as the vacuum cleaner was being accessed to address the aforementioned broken glass.
3. A quick look around the yard has revealed several sticks, STICKS, I tell you, that have been knocked clear out of the trees.
one of which yielded a 2" diameter divot in my front lawn.
4. LEAVES are in the pool.

We will be spending some time totaling up the costs associated with this horrendous damage and getting estimates....

NNJ - lost power at 3am.ack on at 3 pm. Turns out we were just about the only neighborhood to loose it. Strange. Got 2" water in basement, but pumped it out after power came on. Rug is shot. Gotta get a generator, and a pump, before the next. Sears / HD / etc wiped out of that stuff.

Bristol got rocked pretty bad. I've been without power for about 13 hours now. No idea when we'll get it back.

Is it just me or is mocking the weather gods as bad as mocking the basketball gods?

Been in good shape all day up here on the MA/NH border. A lot of wind and rain but nothing more than that. Now at 9:15 PM the lights are flickering. WTF?

Yeah, the Pequabuck River overflowed and tore through Bristol/Forestville streets. Then a couple idiots thought it would be cool to get in a canoe and ride the rapids. Naturally they lost control, crashed into a bridge and got swept under. Now one of them is still missing as of now and the National Guard is out looking for him. Nice.

Is the intersection by the RR bridge impassable? That's my route to work.

Finally got power back. It was pretty much one tree that fell that did it from what I've gathered.

My enduring memory from Hurricane Irene is the fact that I left a basketball in my yard and it didn't move.
