An annual event. Anyone go? There's a paragraph on each player in here.

“It takes a while to build,” said Hurley, who spoke for about 45 minutes during his annual appearance at the event. “The end product of last year’s team was not how we started. I say it a lot, I know, we were picked closer to fourth in the Big East Preseason Poll than we were third… No one was talking about us in the preseason. I think there was some of these anonymous head coaching polls that gave us a very small percentage of getting back to the Final Four. So, going into the year, no one had any idea that we were gonna play as high a level of basketball as we played.”

Another article from this morning's breakfast. This one is about Hurley's recruiting strategy and not a run down of all the players. I expect Borges will do another one on that.

"I feel like, in our minds, there's a balance in recruiting for us in general, where we look for the premium talent that has the type of make-up and pedigree and character that we want with the people we bring into our organization," Hurley said on Thursday. "We'll continue to attract the exact type of people we've been getting."

"In recruiting, we're selective," Hurley added. "And we're not exactly what everyone is looking for, in terms of the work load, the accountability piece, the commitment that you have to make to the team with us. It's not for everyone, so we don't recruit everyone. It's a pretty strong filter, the way we do things."

And one more article from this morning's breakfast.

“We’re clearly on a mission,” Hurley said. “To go for a third national championship is definitely a goal. We’ve got the Big East championship goals again going into the year. Even bigger picture for us and something that I think about a lot is when people think about the best sports organizations in the world, particularly in basketball, we want them to think of UConn at the top of the list, and that includes the NBA.

“The way we do things, the way we play, everything about our organization we want to be a model for what’s best about team and how people can come together, share their talents, work incredibly hard together and achieve great things. So that’s what our mindset is.”

This year’s Huskies will need to win Hurley’s love

I thought the most interesting things Hurley said (at least to me) were not covered by the

He talked about focusing on getting offensive players and then having them work on defense. The “Rock Fight” days are over. Too difficult to win consistently that way and he mention how they shot over 50% from 3.

Any other reporters write about the breakfast yet? It's usually one of the more insightful commentaries about the team every year.

Besides the Courant, Hearst Media (Register, JI, CT Post, etc.) and The New London Day articles I posted above? No.

Which one of those articles has a player by player breakdown besides the Courant?

None of the others that I've seen. Which was strange because usually they do that. Wish I could have posted the alternate access to the Courant article but they seem to have blocked those sites. Any of the players you want me to copy and paste here? There's a paragraph on each players except Hurley grouped 3 of the sophomores together.

Danny talked about Hassan being a vocal leader type. Likes his toughness.
He also said Alex changed the program by being such a serious student of the game and hard worker. Other players then followed that example.
I think Reed is one of the keys this year - how much they can develop him. Samson does some things well but still learning game and is best as change of pace. (My opinion not Danny’s).
Danny rates McNeeley really high.
Thinks Ball has played well.

My own take is that we won’t have the rebounding that we have had the past two seasons from multiple positions. I think guys like Abraham and Ross will need to play more than many realize, including the coaches.

The 3 sophomores please. Very strange that none of the other writers wrote an article summarizing those quotes since they were all there and they do it every year, almost like they had an agreement that the one writer who did would have it hidden behind a paywall that can't be breached lol.

Other than Ball just made a general statement how they are progressing but given depth takes awhile to get minutes.
Danny did talk a lot about building program guys vs portal and because we don’t tamper we start too late on many portal guys.
My view is Danny has to walk a fine line between a plan for 1 and done types but also program guys, which require different messaging.

Solo Ball, Jaylin Stewart and Jayden Ross, sophomores:
“We bet heavy on them. I think more in line with what most college programs are doing right now is like, sacrifice younger player development and culture and just go portal, portal, portal, get old, old, old. I think a lot of people in our situation having a three-peat at stake might have just sacrificed those guys and said, ‘Let’s go get old guys…’ The sophomore class is critical for us, so we believe in them.

Solo, I thought he looked great the other night (18 points in exhibition) and then you could see the flashes from Jaylin Stewart, Jayden Ross – those guys will keep getting better the whole year, too. What you saw Jordan Hawkins do in March of his sophomore year was very different than what you saw in November and December with Jordan, and parts of January. Those guys will keep getting better the entire year and then by the time we get to like that money time in March and April, those guys will be playing like juniors and I think it’s gonna be a great thing.”

on Samson: He is going to have to answer questions about being able to anchor down and defensive rebound and protect the rim the way that Donovan (Clingan) was able to, so we’re betting heavy that he’s going to be able to do that. And then we’re gonna do some different things tactically to keep him from being exposed that way.

interesting what this can be.

on Liam: I just think he’s got to be able to get his emotions, kind of control of his nerves because he wants it so bad and he works so hard and he’s like so invested and he’s excellent. I mean, he’s the best freshman that we’ve brought in in terms of how good he is right now, and I think there’s few young players in the country that can match his all-around ability. He’s just got to learn how to handle that game situation and be intense enough, but not over the top where he can’t perform. He might’ve worked himself up a little too much the other night.

basically liam needs to chill a bit. probably fixes itself with a few games.

Nowell and IA: They’re trying to battle their way into the top eight, top nine of a really talented rotation. Those guys are really good players, they’re just young players that are developing. They’re going through what Solo went through last year, J-Ross, Jaylin Stewart, they’re going through what Samson went through in younger stages of his career. It’s hard to get on the court right now at UConn. You’ve got to be on point, but those two guys have great futures with us and we’re going to work really hard to develop them.

seems like rotation is 9 players.
