Hurley Suspension? | Page 3 | The Boneyard

Hurley Suspension?

So under this logic, if a 38-45% 3pt shooter starts the night off 0-2, they should just stop shooting the rest of the night since they are at 0%. Call it a night and hope for a better start the next game.

Sheesh.
The team has three goals this year. Winning the Big East, winning the Big East tournament, and winning a national championship. A team of that caliber shouldn't be totally dependent on the three where they live and die by it.

Hurley just spent two postgame press conferences basically saying Reed's play can still carry the team to their three goals and he needs to be a beast. Well he was a beast today when we were feeding him the first 21 minutes of the game. I didn't see anything designed for him after that.

Why did the play of this team peak in late November/early December? Why have we only really seen that again in one game against St. John's? Why have we played our two worst games of the season in late February/early March?

It's absolutely nuts the people saying this team isn't constructed well. That's just hogwash. We've throttled SJU, took Arizona to the end missing two starters, etc.

The team has ALL the potential in the world. What's happening is between the ears and in the locker room.
The problem is that it’s missing that critical piece. This team doesn’t seem to have a KEA, Shabazz, Kemba, or newton. A guy that when the team isn’t playing well says get on my back and follow me.

Last I checked, Hurley can’t play the game just coach it. Today was more on the players than the coach. Just stop w this nonsense.
You are so very right. I and others have pointed out that this year”s team does not have the fire in the belly for a full 40 minutes. We are lacking a Cam, Andre, Khalid or fill in the blank. Why couldn’t they play like the St John’s game instead of sleep walking through most of the season.

Or you could be Newton, go 0-10, tell yourself it's not your night, and figure out how else you can help the team win.

.-.
I think he should be more worried about watching a slow motion train wreck play out right in front of him that he has the power to stop but instead did nothing about it.

Get the damn ball to Tarris Reed. If he doesn't have things designed to get the ball to him in the paint and the players can't execute getting him the ball in the paint it's on the coach. If you jack up dumb shots instead of getting it to him in the paint you sit.
I’m genuinely perplexed how people don’t understand this. Tarris had 8 points in the blink of an eye and we just stopped feeding him. That is coaching.

What about when they’re 0-7…. How about stopping at that point?? At what point do you figure out you don’t have it tonight and change up the plan. The ball should have went into Tarris every single possession but no we jack up 30+ 3s against a team that has absolutely no inside presence whatsoever. Complete madness.

I find it infuriating. He should touch the ball every possession in the post. We should be running the entire offense through Tarris and Silas.

We get Hurley and the fanbase saying this nonsense that Tarris checks in and out of the games all the time and he needs to be a beast when we simply don't run things through him. Tarris takes 9.9 shots per game and Silas takes 7.4 shots per game, it doesn't make sense.

Stop talking like a non-entitled, spoiled brat fan! …this board is insane with the criticism - I recall Calhoun having plenty of very good, but not great teams. I still enjoyed those seasons. Guys - chill, and enjoy the ride.

25k for Hurley is likely $100 for many other people. That's not a problem. He needs to get the team to hit a reset button. Issue is no more room for mistakes.

It's roster construction. You have to have the right mix of players that have the ability to execute the game plan at a high level consistently on both sides of the ball. This includes the bench. You have to have Dogs that mirror the Hurley's mentality. It's not there with this team and we need to accept this reality.

This is a good team, it's not great. They plateaued in the middle of the season and they put fear in none of their opponents who look at them as vulnerable. The signs have been there the entire season. When you think about the early season success that benchmark is contingent on continued development relative to the other top teams.
Losing Adams before the season hurt the team immensely. He is a Dog.

Refs were fine today. They missed some both ways.
There was a play (early in the 2nd half) in which Newton drove to the hoop, was fouled twice while shooting, got his own rebound, was fouled, and they ruled the ball off Newton's knee (with Reed mysteriously on the ground, I guess he just got tired and wanted to rest).

That is a lot of "missed calls" one way.

This is dumb rationalizing and disingenuous. Why do you think he got ejected immediately? The photo by formerlurker shows Hurley was clearly in the official's personal space and literally as close as a person can be to someone without contact assuming there was no contact. That's a distinction without a difference.

I hope he doesn't get suspended and I am not saying he should or shouldn't be suspended, but we certainly cannot be surprised or outraged if does get suspended.
So now that the Big East official statement says they couldn't confirm there was any contact between Hurley and the ref am I still being disingenuous?

Was Hurley out there jacking up clean-look 3’s, clanking them, and not passing it into Reed?

This isn’t 5th grade Church league basketball. These are paid young adult athletes playing their 31st game of the season. If you don’t think they are capable of making proper decisions, I’m not sure what to tell you.

We also only have 4 timeouts a half and Hurley can’t call one every possession to go over the fundamentals of basketball.
Really?? He can yank whoever is not following the game plan. You understand that right?

This is like the easiest thing in the world to understand. And there are people on here saying “Hurley wasn’t the one missing all the 3s”. No, but he was the one deciding who stayed in the game to continue missing them!!

0-2 is quite different from 3-23. You aren’t really that obtuse are you?
