Hurley Suspension?

Refs were fine today. They missed some both ways.

He freaked out because the team played like garbage and just blew the Big East title.
This is exactly it. The official were fine and missed calls, but Hurley was not really angry at the officials per se. He was angry about UConn's lousy play and how it lead to the way the game unfolded and because of that took his anger out on the officials.

That's exactly why Hurley reacted like he did. He was incredibly frustrated by the play today.
I think he should be more worried about watching a slow motion train wreck play out right in front of him that he has the power to stop but instead did nothing about it.

Ok fair enough. I don't think he coached his best game either and I am certainly not excusing his behavior at the end. I was just explaining why it happened. Sure he was angry at the officials at certain points of the game, but the root cause of his anger was not the officiating-it was the lousy play and blowing the Big East regular season title.

I think the point of the explosion was, reverse situation and they blow the whistle on UConn

How many times in this game alone did Marquette drive, throw up a shot that missed, we grabbed the rebound and only then did they blow the whistle after we had the ball in our hands. I counted at least 2.
At least 105 times by my count.

What could he have “coached better” that the team didn’t already know they needed to do.

I’ll hang up and listen
Seriously: stop taking 3s when you are shooting 12% and more giving it to the guy shooting 70%. And if you don’t, I have a nice warm seat on the bench for you.

This isn’t rocket science people

Was Hurley out there jacking up clean-look 3’s, clanking them, and not passing it into Reed?

This isn’t 5th grade Church league basketball. These are paid young adult athletes playing their 31st game of the season. If you don’t think they are capable of making proper decisions, I’m not sure what to tell you.

We also only have 4 timeouts a half and Hurley can’t call one every possession to go over the fundamentals of basketball.

Get the damn ball to Tarris Reed. If he doesn't have things designed to get the ball to him in the paint and the players can't execute getting him the ball in the paint it's on the coach. If you jack up dumb shots instead of getting it to him in the paint you sit.

All the action seems to be to get guys open on the 3 pt line. Only once did we see the cross screen to get someone open down low. Where are the cuts towards to basket

But by and large, the shots weren’t “dumb”

I will take Mullins, Karaban, and even Solo and Ross taking in rhythm open 3s. They had many today and they didn’t fall.

I will agree that they didn’t do enough to get the ball into Reed in the 2nd half.

Do you REALLY think our coaching staff wasn’t mentioning it to the players during any time outs to also look to get the ball inside, or also not calling plays that involved looks inside?

So under this logic, if a 38-45% 3pt shooter starts the night off 0-2, they should just stop shooting the rest of the night since they are at 0%. Call it a night and hope for a better start the next game.

Sheesh.

I don't think Tarris ever touched the ball in the last 19 minutes of the game other than getting the ball at the three point line once and driving for a missed layup Ross dunked home.

They either don't have the stuff designed for him to get it in the paint or the players can't execute getting him the ball in the paint, that's on the coach. They had a week to prepare for playing a terrible team.

I've watched the clip a bunch of times and honestly, no I do not see the contact. Everyone else sees it so maybe I'm just blind but I see him get in his face but that's it
This is dumb rationalizing and disingenuous. Why do you think he got ejected immediately? The photo by formerlurker shows Hurley was clearly in the official's personal space and literally as close as a person can be to someone without contact assuming there was no contact. That's a distinction without a difference.

I hope he doesn't get suspended and I am not saying he should or shouldn't be suspended, but we certainly cannot be surprised or outraged if does get suspended.

He clearly chest bumps the ref. Is it a violent action? No of course not. But by the book it's a suspension.

Did you pass math?

They shot 36% overall. 3-24 from three (13%) and 18-35 (51%) from two. All the more reason to take more 2s.
It’s like we took lessons from last years Celtics keep jacking jacking and jacking 3’s because the analytics tell you to, which doomed the Celtics against the Knicks and I’m a Knicks fan saying this.

It's absolutely nuts the people saying this team isn't constructed well. That's just hogwash. We've throttled SJU, took Arizona to the end missing two starters, etc.

The team has ALL the potential in the world. What's happening is between the ears and in the locker room.

The players wanted to get the ball to lots of places today, but all they had in their bag was weak telegraphed passes.

I do think Hurley could use a game off for his own good, be away from the media until Friday, get the team ready chill at the hotel on Thursday, give Kimani an opportunity and perhaps it will give us a spark. Sometimes I felt Calhoun needed a game off when we looked sluggish and the team was re-energized with Blaney.

Well, Hurley also didn’t touch Cam Spencer while the ball was in play. I think he’s out next game. I agree you don’t stop taking threes but maybe you should drive more and get it going that way for a spell. Besides Reed, Reibe has nice touch but they don’t go to him often. The Marquette deflection stat was definitely a thing today. They came ready to play. A BE championship and a NCAA 1 seed on the line and that’s the effort the Huskies put out there? Yikes. Thankfully this wasn’t the BE tourney. A one game and done at MSG is not an option.
