Another game. Another fan complaining about an irrelevant Hurley press conference. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. As always, Dan Hurley seems incapable of explaining his actions in anything resembling coherency. To the extent that any two consecutive sentences do make sense, they merely echo platitudes expressed on this forum. More often they make no sense, as when he was asked if he has considered starting Reed over Johnson. His response was pure babble.
My interpretation of Hurley’s gibberish on Reed is that he wants him to stay hungry and playing at a high level. If he hands him the starting job perhaps he’s worried that Reed becomes complacent and his contributions slip again. As others here have pointed out, keeping Johnson in the starting slot also allows Dan Hurley to give Reed a disproportionate share of minutes at the 5 while still keeping Johnson invested as the “starter”.As always, Dan Hurley seems incapable of explaining his actions in anything resembling coherency. It's amazing when you think of the quantity of posts that absolutely blast Hurley these days. I hate to think of how bad these people would behave if we weren't coming off back to back titles.Another game. Another fan complaining about an irrelevant Hurley press conference. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
It really is silly. What’s to be expected? These are run fairly casually, guy is standing against a wall fielding a bunch of the same ol. Not exactly the forum for crisp season changing statements. It’s also a time of year where coaches are being diplomatic around playing time. No point in saying too much around anything really. I’m ready for the tourneys, the back end of this reg season feels like forever already. It's amazing when you think of the quantity of posts that absolutely blast Hurley these days. He doesn’t get any credit for those titles. It’s all the players. But when they lose it’s his fault. Don’t you get it?It's amazing when you think of the quantity of posts that absolutely blast Hurley these days. Hurley is trying to dumb it down so the rest of us can understand what he is thinking. Apparently he didn't go far enough for some.As always, Dan Hurley seems incapable of explaining his actions in anything resembling coherency. Well one thing with Braden is he’s been playing with his system and coach for 3 years. That’s pretty important to being comfortable and knowing what you’re doing. For both the player and the coach. They know each other well.Watching a bit of Purdue game and seeing Braden Smith put up 23 points, is 6 ft tall and not particularly athletic. Looking at Aiden, would seem he could be Braden Smith-esk, but has not been. Braden brings ball up court and takes a bit of time, not particularly fast. Difference looks like he is attack mode (so have to guard him) and looks to shoot and will shoot off picks (36% 3 point shooter). Also, Purdue looks like they cut harder and cleaner (give passing angles) better than UConn players. On defense, bigs for Purdue help challenge drives so individual Purdue guards (Smith in particular) don't get beat so cleanly on drives.
Maybe I'm underestimating how good Braden is but sure seems like Aiden should be closer to at least a Braden "lite" than the confused looking player he has been.
Need to get Aiden useful. Seems like he turns ball over all the time yet has better than 2:1 assist to turnover ratio and 32% 3 point shooting isn't good enough but within few points of Karaban and Liam, if Aiden makes his next 3 three pointers his shooting % will be better than both of them.
Like the idea of giving Hassan some rest, see trying Nowell as good idea, but need to get Aiden to contribute. Maybe play him through a few f/u's and tell him to hunt his shot and drive (actually like how he drives, not so much how he finishes).
One could argue you have that backwards. Who literally says they are “the best coach in the country” and then throws this stink pot out there??? THIS is the year that should show his coaching prowess, not last year when he had a generational team w 4 NBA players on it. Why is that so hard for people to grasp and admit? He doesn’t get any credit for those titles. It’s all the players. But when they lose it’s his fault. Don’t you get it?
Give one example of ANYONE that has said “I am right and Dan Hurley is wrong and I’m entitled to an explanation”.I find it so funny that multiple people on this message board genuinely feel like they know better than UConn’s entire staff on not 1 small thing, but many important decisions as a coach. They genuinely think he owes them an explanation in detail on his specific decisions.
I get questioning some things, asking about roster aspects, some playing time questions, etc. I definitely do not think they are perfect. But I can’t imagine writing multiple paragraphs with the clear viewpoint of “I know I’m right and Dan Hurley is wrong, and I’m entitled to an explanation.”
This is WHILE WE ARE CURRENTLY THE DEFENDING BACK TO BACK CHAMPIONS.
I mean, yeah this is pretty true. One could argue you have that backwards. Who literally says they are “the best coach in the country” and then throws this stink pot out there??? Actually, you still haven’tNah, I’m good. If you haven’t seen it, that’s on you.
More likely than not, you’re a perpetrator so that’s why you were quick on the reply.
But hey, questioning multiple moves by saying “it’s clearly not working why is he still doing this?!?!” is not what I described, right?
And literally in this thread the man said “Dan Hurley is incapable of explaining his actions” then described complaints he personally has with Hurley’s specific coaching moves.
I’ve seen a guy claim to write a note to Tom Moore with multiple coaching points addressed to the staff.
So, I lied. I did give you examples. Here’s my wild guess: you will dismiss those as well.
