One thing, Mullins and Stewart make UConn a much quicker team. I love McNeeley, but he is quick for a 4 but not as quick at the 3. Mullins has really good lateral movement and Stewart, if he can ever figure it out, has significantly more athleticism than Karaban. Add in Riebe, who is a high level offensive player who can shoot with range (centers will have to leave the post to guard him) and Adams who is quick and gets to the hole, and think the athleticism of next year's team will be much better (along with more height). I am with a lot of guys who believe Hurley has to dip into the portal get transfers to help out. A kid like Poplar at Villanova would be the ideal type of add--lanky 6'6 kid who can score, defend, and is athletic. This year's team just doesn't have the right mix and seems slow. Getting more athletic will help a great deal.
Getting more athletic is a must and will help but Stewart isn’t the answer there

in practice where things are a tick slower you can def see how he'd get rave reviews. with the athleticism. could see how maybe some more jumpers fall or it's easier to get to the lane, given how our perimeter defense has looked.

so maybe he is a year away from putting it all together. but i don't think you can guarantee him an extended run. you need ball/karaban/diarra/liam out there for as long as possible, and reed and samson split the 5. everyone else gets a crack, use it or lose it.
Probably looks good in practice because the rest of the team is so unathletic..

Solo
Mullins
Ross
Stewart
Reed

Nowell
Adams
Abraham
Reibe/Singare

Go into the summer letting Solo know it’s his show next year with a development plan for things to work on to be ready. That lineup is a tall, long, athletic, talented veteran group of upperclassmen with multiple years of experience together and in the program sans Mullins. Would come with great chemistry.

Solo is the guy. Mullins comes in with the 3 part and Hurley will work with him to get the D (pause). Ross and Stewart are the 2nd and 3rd options with Ross as the secondary ballhandler and playmaker. Reed obviously manning the paint.

Ahmad is the first guy off the bench with 20-25 mins a game in a role similar to Bazz and Kemba where he moves Ball to the 2 for stretches and maybe even closes games.

Adams gets time here and there as another guard off the bench at the 2/3. 1 if absolutely necessary if Ball and Nowell are in foul trouble.

Abraham subs in at the 3/4.

Reibe and Singare man’s minutes at center situationally. Singare for defense, Reibe for offense. Maybe even find minutes for Reibe at the four with his offensive skills at times we may want to go big.

Very deep, talented, veteran roster with a lot of options to go small or big, Offense/defense, etc.

That’s my crazy, mad, and sure to get clowned on this board vision for next year.
I don’t hate it, but you’re missing someone….

I'm not sure what to think about Hurley’s comment on giving Ross more PT or his game. Way way back when the season started, he was driving the lane and knocking down 3s, but for months now it seems the game is just too fast for him.

Both he and Stewart have way to many negative or unproductive minutes just about every game. It often looks like he doesn't know what to do in the motion offense and can't hit his open 3s and layups. Stewart has had some nice offensive stretches from deep and on the offensive glass, but then either dissappears or turns it over at an alarming rate.
Just a little consistency from either or both players would really help this team, but neither seem to be able to do that. I just don't know what to expect from either of them this season or next to that matter.

It will be interesting tonight. Obviously Hurley is saying his team needs more. And he is saying that he thinks Ross can do more.

Hard to say this but... he does see them every day in practice. This is Dan Hurley's judgement. We all know that practice is not games. It doesn't always translate. He was considered by many to the best inn his class (save Castle). It would be very nice if the lights came on at the Ross house.

Ross was not considered the best in that class, aside from Castle. I think he was widely considered the 4th best out of 5.
