Hurley on current state of CBB

Not just cuz he's my coach. But Yes!!!! I've been saying it all along....what about us? What about the Millions of fans who actually make CBB viable at all. Why don't we factor in? Id rather look out for the BY's interests, tbh.

People use the "well coaches get to move whenever they want, and up to pros and back to college if they want"...

But who cares? They arent 'students' and It happens less frequently - plus it doesnt have the same unintended consequences for cbb.

There isnt always blanket equality in the workplace. Some companies/states allow non-compete clauses, for example. Thats not "fair" to all workers. but sometimes institutions need protection too.

Be careful, you're going to get called a hypocrite.

Nice try. You targeting certain of our players and implying they’re scum because fans can’t enjoy a game is at a different level of what Hurley and Jaydum20 are talking about.
"Implying they're scum"

Keep going, this is hilarious.

Comments Summery. We all still hate the NCAA.
I think we skipped this thread last year for some reason. Always good to get the poison out.

Charlie Baker??? Guess the NCAA will be like the state of Massachusetts, outta control!
It was a lot less out of control with Charlie than it is now. But he has said the NCAA losing in court every time means they can't do much without Congress. The guidance from the courts has been really sparse, never saying what can be done, only what can't be done.

Hurley's right on this, but I think the horse is out of the barn and it's never coming back.

I won't profess to understand the intricacies of NCAA governance, but it's my understanding that it is a member driven organization. I am sure the influence within that organization is heavily weighted to those member institutions with the most resources and those members are hell bent on retaining that power and growing their revenue streams......and if it's at the expense of other institutions, so be it.

Bifurcate this thing into professional and amatuer segments. Maybe the NCAA can govern the latter, because it will never be able to govern the former.

Adding his voice and Tom Izzo's should wake up the rest of the coaches. I wish someone would speak for the college players. For the players being knocked off the end of the bench by professionals.
“speak for college players”
kind of laughable .. finally they are getting a piece of the
pie uconn has a purported 8 million budget
the end of the bench players are professionals as well
just not as well paid

If you think no players are being hurt, fine. But look at the effect on high school recruiting. Looks at the diminishment of player development because of the portal. When the tidal wave of G-League and foreign professionals hits the college game you think there will be no victims?

American basketball will continue to be the victim of this mess of a system we have.

Meanwhile Europeans have very stable clubs and they’ll continue to outpace us in the NBA. Adam Silver already getting ahead of that by starting a European league seeing where this shat show is heading over here.

We're currently stealing all of the top young European talent, so they're freaking out, too.

Not saying it from a standpoint of the NBA.

Saying it from the standpoint of young American basketball players having yet another hurdle to their development that European players don’t have.

There was a commissioner: the NCAA. They were so pro the Universities making money off of free labor that we got where we are now.

Unless congress gets involved there is no correcting the current trajectory as the court system is going to side with labor (the players). Not to be "political" -- but when you are putting your hopes into congress solving a problem, you are likely going to be disappointed.

One last thing: It isn't basketball they will be trying to save. But football. Football has calendar problems that make that a much more difficult proposition.

Hurley is right but there’s one major problem: the law. A commissioner has to have power coming from somewhere, and that usually means a collective bargaining agreement - but if we do that, the illusion of amateurism dies forever. Still, given antitrust laws, the schools cannot just grant a commissioner power to set and enforce rules. The NCAA has taken a step back because, I assume, they have identified this concern. Push too hard and someone will sue to blow up the whole system.

The problem is we want a professional style league but with colleges. This exists nowhere else in the world. Some legal gymnastics, statutory exceptions, congressional acts, etc. are going to be necessary for college sports to survive. And, it’s going to have to be done in a way that doesn’t drive college athletes away from the sport.

Victims?
You can’t really be serious
the players are paid professionals
It’s called capitalism
I hear all the moaning and groaning from coaches and fans
but it seems that both basketball and football have never been more popular when private equity wants to invest in conferences I think that gives a pretty good idea of where things are going
It seems everyone but coaches in those iMessage boards seem to be happy with the productin
