Hurley Karaban Memphis Post Game Presser

What was the actual circumstance of Hurley's technical? It seemed like we just saw the aftermath. Did he fall or stumble and then have that misinterpreted?

yeah he fell or stumbled. He was probably running out screaming that there was a kitten caught on top of the backboard that needed to be rescued, too.

After the McNeeley over the back call he walked towards the ref pointed at the ref and called him a farking joke multiple times.

Walked towards the ref in a menacing fashion and kept swearing at him, the refs were constantly getting berated by Hurley through the game and in time outs. The officiating was not awful, but it was inconsistent and not good either as Memphis was reaching and slapping a lot and not getting called for it. Don't get me started on the elbow to Ball. I could see that clearly from my seat on the other side. As the person posted above, they called the elbow against Reed and that was BS because all he did as spin and the Memphis guard, who is short was leaning against Reed.

Th Colorado -Michigan State was much better officiated as they didn't call every thing and call the foul hunting actions-that game had a better flow.
Having said that, I thought Hurley should have played Jaylen more. He was.playing with great energy and confidence. And Hurley cannot get a T in the situation whatsoever even though the over the back call on Liam was bogus considering what Memphis got away with.
Memphis played well, too, so they deserve credit for advancing. They hit some tough shots, but UConm really didn't handle getting around the screens and simply lost their man on oyher plays , especially on DHOs.

I don't think I have ever seen any college basketball game in my 30+ years of watching games where the medical staff got a technical foul. That is kind of a insane. What a weird game. We will get better and be a tough matchup for anyone. Memphis is better than people think. This will go down as a good loss.

If you don't bark at the refs for 40 minutes for every call, they will let certain actions go in certain situations
No attack at a fellow fan but you must have watched on the radio. The officiating was abysmal to say the least. ;)

Again not an attack at a fellow fan but you state the officiating was not awful, then go on to explain that it was. I agree with your second opinion. :D

That's an official in over his head and thinking the game is about him. Just pathetic

Memphis pressed and reached in all day, and we were the team called for far more fouls.

Inconsistency on defensive fouls, inconsistency in offensive fouls, inconsistency on elbows, and the foul on McNeeley in the final minute was an absolute joke as well as a game changer. That's how refs in over their heads roll, they want to be the show.

I think Johnson's foul in OT was a bad decision on his part. Having said that, he was probably tired of being hacked without a call while being called for every little thing himself. He was obviously frustrated by being pushed around. That too is a sign of bad officiating

BTW: Memphis played a good game, made shots, and played the way the refs let them play. I hope we see them in March, I think it might resemble the Georgia Tech rematch in 2004.

They won’t make 55% from 3, but they can still out drive our guards and get to the line. That can’t be coached up I don’t think.

LMAO, yeah I can see what u mean. I thought it wasn't good and it was inconsistent, but my definition of awful is like a 1-3 on a scale of 10. I would give officiating a 4, which means it ain't good either.
I guess my bigger point is that the officiating affected UConn adversely and unfairly but UConn has a lot to improve on.Hurley is correct, they miss a lot of easy rolls to th basket on pick and rolls
U Conn has a lot to fix. That should be the focus
These tournaments are good to gauge where your team is at.

Our players / teams have made significant improvements on defense in each of the last two years

Plus in the analogy I made about Georgia Tech, they bragged about their superior athleticism when they beat us in November. Very different result in April

So yes, players are coached up all the time. That's what good coaches do

Devin Carter is now on X heckling UConn?

Now I’ve always thought the player should be able to clear himself to clear so it’s not a bad call. BUT the problem I have is Reed had the same play occur from him on O and he was called for the foul, which instead should have been a 3 point play. Inconsistency by the refs all game!
Exactly, but arguably there was no foul at all by Ball on that play as there was no actual contact by Ball until he clubbed. The ref was just reacting to an apparent collision and assumed that it must have been on the defender
