Hurley denies social media report that UConn president talked to him after Maui

Still can't ____ing believe we still rely on a guy with "BC" in his handle to be the print-media voice of the UConn program. Only in Connecticut.

Can we circle the ____ing wagons in our media please?

You may be way underestimating the Milton factor with him. With the way print media has been consolidated and regionalized, there's a real probability whomever is in charge of that paper doesn't even know he exists.

Time to bring in the Bob's and figure it out.

Danny been on his best behavior lately, so either Andrea or The President told him to cool his jets. Trust me bro.

I thought this was buried 6 weeks ago? Leave it to Mike DiMauro to stir the pot. I'd love to know who his sources are. I hope Hurley confronts him about it. Maybe he can start the conversation by asking DiMauro how BC is doing in basketball since their move to the ACC.

"All I'm going to say is that I've not had a text message, a phone call, a conversation, a meeting at any point this year, from anyone at the university that hasn't either wished me a Merry Christmas, a Happy Thanksgiving, a Happy New Year, a 'great win' or 'keep pushing coach,'" the UConn men's basketball coach told CT Insider following the Huskies' 68-60 win over Georgetown on Saturday.

On Friday night, Day of New London sports columnist Mike DiMauro replied to another post on X by saying: "Just so you know: Hurley was called into the university president's office after Maui and was told to knock off the behavior. This is from solid campus sources."

UConn coach Dan Hurley denies social media report that UConn president talked to him after Maui

Can we pin a post at the top of the forum that reminds people that this guy is a hack? He's not to be taken seriously, ignored and not engaged with.

If enough fans send complaints to the new London day...

The trend seems to be Danny starts the season insane, gets worse, than eventually calms down.

This new board narrative of how JC coached his players as a negative is cringe.
It's ok to criticize Jim Calhoun. People didn't like that stuff then and it hasn't gotten better in retrospect

So yelling and cursing at your players is okay as long as it’s not in public? Please man yall have to stop

I’m sure none of those players had an issue with how Calhoun coached. As someone who has experience playing for a coach with a similar style it is absolutely not a big deal at all. All guys care about is playing and getting better, both things Calhoun did. Especially in Boatright’s case that yall want to make the poster child for this “abuse”.

Well, it's certainly not up to the Bob Knight standards nor did it earn a Latrell Sprewell-like choking of a head coach.

I'm sure "President's office" is a euphemism for Andrea.

I think this better makes the point.

There was a somewhat similar picture of JC with Hilton Armstrong (I'm guessing about eight years earlier than that picture) where it appeared JC was fighting the urge to take a swing at Hilton.

The GOAT used the phrase in question more than once.

Don't throw me in that "yall." No one said a word about abuse.

Again, no one is saying Calhoun is bad. But no one is above criticism.

It’s a very knitpicking thing seeing the results it had. Not just on the court but off it.

How man truly great leaders (not just nice people) did he send out into the world?

Being a master pupil of Calhoun usually meant you were an All American, long NBA career, and leader in any place you went into.

See Ray, Rip, Caron (who is someone Hurley probably wouldn’t have recruited), Emeka, Kemba, etc.

I’m just not here for the nitpicking of someone who was great at what he did in so many ways and changed lives with his style.

What a crock. I grew up on those games too. Never saw Thompson or Rollie or Calhoun or Boeheim or Looie throw themselves on the floor and kick like a 2-year old. There was a certain level of “performance art” in what those guys did. But they were always under control. Hurley has lost control on occasion. Maui was such an occasion.
Please post video of Hurley "throw[ing] [himself] on the floor and kick[ing] like a 2-year old," or retract calling Hurley's statement a "crock" and apologize for exaggerating in order to make Dan Hurley seem both worse than he is or has been and continuing to behave as he did in Maui.

I really welcome any video that confirms what you've written and corrects my own impressions.

Did you see them win back to back national championships?
Oh I get it. If you win back to back titles you can act like a jerk.

The guy acted like a ant tried to pretend he was just copying the coaches from the original Big East. He is a terrific coach but he is also a jerk. You can be both. He is closer to Bob Knight than he is to John Thompson. Both were great coaches. One was classy. One was not.

I think it is a non-issue whether someone in the UConn administration had a discussion with him. One would expect they speak to him about lots of things related to the program. After all it is UConn Basketball not Hurley Basketball.

.-.
I'm guessing that if anyone within the school spoke with him about his behavior in Maui, it would not have been close to what he heard from Andrea.

As far as I'm concerned, if that conversation did or did not happen, it makes no difference, I want Hurley to remain exactly who he is.
...which includes showing willingness and ability to make adjustments and improvements.

I think he’s referring to when he fell to his knees in either the Colorado or Memphis game.

Half the reason other coaches wouldn’t do that is because their knees probably aren’t good enough to do it in fairness though

I get where you're coming from, but still, I have a nearly three year old granddaughter, and I'm very observant, and I know how to read, and we've seen nothing like what you wrote since Maui, and @freescooter is invited to inform me where I've gotten anything wrong, and I expect him to remain silent if he cannot provide proof of his claim.

As to the behavior that earned Dan Hurley his technical, however it affected the game and/or reflected poorly on him, it clearly told Liam McNeeley that his rebound-putback was fluid, powerful, most impressive, and something that he should continue. It was a giant in-game green light for McNeeley to be the strong, mature player we've watched him become. Looking forward to his return.

Hurley isn't at all like Bobby Knight or John Thompson.

Threw himself on the floor and crawled like a 2 year old.

No kicking.

I'm in the final two weeks of experiencing a two-year old. Thank you for that clip which I saw live. I'm of increased confidence that @freescooter is freescooting. Hurley did not kick. He did crawl. He hasn't done it since. He acknowledged that he'd gone too far. He's behaved accordingly ever since. He'll continue to be emotional. I like him a lot.

How many players went to Calhouns hall of fame induction? A ton, big names and small names. His players loved every ounce of him.

I saw him in Arizona hanging out with his former players. It is all family.
