Hurley’s comparing Mullins to Curry

Jack Nicholson Yes GIF

Hurley said he was NOT comparing Mullins to Curry as basketball players.

He was referring to the mechanics of their shots and how they were different. Specifically he was talking about Mullins having a lower release point but said it was not a problem because he got the shot off so quickly.

I saw Curry in college if only he was that good .
He played with a pretty average bunch of guys that made a splash in the NCAA tournament on the back of his incredible shooting.
The closest thing to Curry would be Larry Bird
Dragging Indiana State to the finals However
Bird was a senior and Curry a junior so
Comparing is a bit unfair
Unfortunately we won’t get to see that level of maturity

Seth Curry couldn't even hold onto Larry Bird's jock strap

So frustrating for Hurley that he explicitly went out of his way multiple times in that interview to state he was NOT comparing Mullins to Curry, solely the low release angle and shot height, and then the team reports immediately ask their first question to Braylon saying “how does it feel for Hurley to compare you to Curry?”

I can see why these guys hate doing interviews when even our local guys can’t stop themselves from twisting the words that were said.

Bird was older because he had dropped out of college. But he was drafted by the Celtics as a sophomore and joined them after his junior year. So both Curry and Bird were juniors in the NCAAs. Different years of course.

Bird was also a small/power forward at 6'9" but grew in college from 6'6".

Doubt Braylon will add 3 inches of height but stranger things have happened (see David Robinson height growth).

That said, there was much more to Bird's game than 3pt shooting, he could pass and drive with the best of them and had a heads up BBIQ to his game. In that regard, Mullins is a better comp overall to Bird than Curry as Mullins can rebound, shoot the 2pt, drive, and assist.

But shot mechanics alone, that is a decent Steph Curry comparison.

I mean not really. Just said there were some passing similarities in their shot release points.
