I forgot he was visiting. He moved around some of his visits and won't visit Arizona now. I am providing the link to the other thread on him for some context.

UConn: “My visit with them is later in October. I think for me it is just the way that Coach (Dan) Hurley coaches. At USA just being around him, there were times when I caught myself just watching him coach. To be honest, as a coach, I mean he is just a dog. The way he shows his emotions on the court, it is great to see. Talking with the assistants, it is a great vibe there and I really like it.”

I like recruits in his ranking range. It sounds like we can go out and get hime.

Interesting thing about Greer is he’s the one guy out of all the guys we’ve showed interest in that we haven’t offered. So he sort of feels like a backup plan to Mullins/Adams.

I know an offer has never been reported, but it is strange that a top 50 (or so) ranked recruit is willing to take an official visit as late as October to a school that hasn't offered. On3 has him having a UConn offer (Hudson Greer - Montverde Academy - Shooting Guard). He must really like UConn if he's willing to come here without an offer.

I have never worried about recruiting and am obviously extremely proud and excited to be a UConn fan but this year seems so odd to me in recruiting thus far. Back to back dominant champion runs, sending kids to the league every year and player development up the wazoo and not one commitment. Priorities sure have changed for these kids with NIL and the transfer market.

I really hope this kind of thing doesn’t make Hurley lose his love for what he does best. I am 99% sure we will end up with a stellar class but count me a little frustrated that kids are not lining up to be a part of what has been going on here.

Every year we fret, and then he delivers.

Kids are lining up to come to UConn but there are 2 major factors at play. Timelines have changed and even beyond NIL making kids wait they can also take more official visits as well.

But more importantly, we're at the point where we can be super selective. We have 7-8 really good targets who all would have been our #1 option even 2 years ago. And to a certain extent we've had our pick of who to prioritize even beyond that. Things are very good on the recruiting front

The NCAA is trying to get rid of this "pay for play" but the courts aren't helping. Remember, this isn't how NIL was supposed to work. If they take these huge payouts out of the equation then recruiting should go back to being more normal.

Judge Claudia Wilken declined to grant preliminary approval to the House v. NCAA antitrust settlement Thursday. She said she was concerned with multiple parts of the terms of the deal. Chief among her worries was a clause that would require any money boosters provide to athletes to be for a "valid business purpose."

During the past several years, booster collectives have evolved to provide payments to athletes that on paper are payments for the use of the player's name, image and likeness but in practice have served as de facto salaries. The settlement terms would make it easier for the NCAA to eliminate those payments.

Wouldn't this actually hurt us?

With revenue sharing, we will not have the amount to share compared to the power schools

At least we would have a shot with the boosters to make up the difference

UConn does pretty well in the Name Image Likeness marketing and revenue development operations, the 'real' NIL store and such, as opposed to just rich donors spending. but this is pretty hard to define in a way that's both clear and also passable, and will be difficult to enforce as well.

So I spend the 6$ a month to be on Trilly Donovan’s discord channel and I don’t get how he has so much inside information on pretty much every single top commitment. Just felt like sharing my thoughts and wonder if anyone else has any insight into how he is so connected.

No one knows who he is, so hard to have any info on that, lol. Many presume (Titus, Norlander), but no one knows.

Things have gotten weird with Greer. 247 just dropped him 30 spots in their rankings and generally not a lot of buzz around him. Trilly said Kansas said No, and we haven’t offered but had a visit scheduled. Then he throws down his announcement spontaneously before some ensuing visits. He feels like a Blue Jay.

Not a big deal other than us losing a backup in the event some of these others fall through, that being unlikely.

Blow it up. College football is a youth for NFL. Go back to no scholarship and athletes that were really in college to get an esucation.
The FBS power schools which are basically in SEC and BIG have won all the Football championships. Football should just spinoff since most of the other schools have 0% chance of winning a championship, I am starting to like the idea that other sports go back to regional conferences and football has two leagues super FBS league and All Other FBS league.

Fingers crossed it's Creighton as I am not interested at all in Kansas or Alabama getting stronger.

Depends on which publication - for instance, they pulled in Jackson McAndrew last year at 38 on 247. Hudson is now 58 on theirs. Composite of all major (on3, rivals, 247 and espn), likely true. Congrats Blue Jays.

He didn't perform so well at peach jam vs high major athletes, so kind of expected that he'd be a backup option for UConn. I guess him deciding to commit early is a sign that UConn feel confident with higher ranked targets.

Good point. He spoke to having a rough summer in his Creighton choice speech a short while ago. For a kid that was fairly high in most rankings, didn’t quite get the buzz as it seemed like many of the usuals fell off a bit.

“I just felt that the way in which they play with pindowns, flares, and things of that nature is the best way for me to play. I’m at my best self when I’m moving around the court, lining up my feet and shooting. Just them feeling trust in me and ultimately working myself in as a Baylor Scheierman type of guy. But just with a little more athleticism and obviously need to hit the weight room as well.”

FWIW the quote referenced below. Good luck to Greer and Creighton. Except when they play UConn of course.

At Peach Jam, Greer averaged 14.3 points and 6.1 rebounds across seven games with JL3 Elite AAU.

“I didn’t shoot as well as I could, but I know I’m a shooter for sure,” he said during his On3 commitment.
