Isn't it great when we allow fellow fans to express their thoughts?.....Sherri Coale has not done a good job in Norman the past 3 years......Sorry.Take off the Rose colored glasses.........IMHO!!.....You all can think whatever you want.......

If the past three seasons includes this one, 2011 and 2010, you're talking about a season that included making the Final Four even after losing the Paris sisters and a Sweet 16 appearance culminating in a defeat against the national runners up. Clearly, OU is off to a poor start in 2011-12, but a poor start, or even a poor season, is not going to put her on the hot seat. She's had 13-loss seasons before and was able to get the program back on track. There is approximately a zero per cent chance OU would dismiss her.

You're more than welcome to have an opinion and people are more than willing to respond to your opinion. If they wish to offer evidence as to why they believe your opinion is not based on reality, that's their right, too. HOW they express their opinion might be an issue, of course, just as how you express your opinion.

If that is not a good job the last 3 years - then most of the coaches in WBB have to go. The number who have done better can be counted on your fingers.

If things are judged from the UConn point of view - well, you are at the top of the heap, more or less. Nothing compares favorably if only looked at in that regard.

I found this post distasteful.

Well, I'm sorry.

The OP has a history of writing provocatively negative posts, and I thought this one was particularly egregious. In my opinion, based on the source, it was written more to cause a ruckus than because it was a thought-out belief; thus my response. There is 0.000% chance of Coale getting fired because of a 3-game losing streak. Any WCBB analyst would say the same.

OU has had some injuries as well. They lost a very good post player, Cloman, that exhibited some excellent play in the Big 12 last year and was going to be a big part of their offense and defense. They also lost one of their guards recently.

OU is just so weak in the paint. They are way too guard oriented and have been forced to depend way too much on the three pointer and the jumper. Hard to be a force when so weak in the paint.

I just think that it's always best, if you don't like a post, to either ignore it or respond with thoughtful comment. But, vowelguy, just to make a nasty comment is unnecessary. Sorry.

Right, what you say about how to act with respect to posts one does not like is almost always preferable. I almost always do so. But there are times when, perhaps after some thought, it may be appropriate to respond as vowelguy did to this OP. Certainly most other posters with an opinion on Coach Coale agreed with vowelguy. Actually I think it was unanimous.

Why is it appropriate in this case? Because of the OP's posting history, as described by vowelguy (a description I completely agree with) which you may not be familiar with. Because it is important for posters to give some thought to what they post, especially with a post like the OP's which concerned a coach's career, and look at the facts to see whether the opinion being stated can be supported. Maybe the OP gave some thought to his opinion, but the facts most certainly do not support that opinion.

Could vowelguy have chosen his words differently? Of course. But sometimes bluntness is needed for effect.

Evidently you neglected to read this post re. Coach Coale in this thread:

"Not happening. Below are some facts to show how preposterous the suggestion is. Her teams' accomplishments don't account for the other wonderful things she has done for OU and the OU community.

'10-'11 23-13 with S16 loss to ND
'09-'10 27-11 with FF loss to Stanford
'08-'09 32-5, B12 reg season champs and FF loss to Louisville"

TWO Final Fours and yet you say she has not done a good job?

Absurd.

Heck, Pat Summitt has a worse record in the past three years than Sherri Coale.
2008-09 First Round loss
2009-10 Sweet 16
2010-11 Elite 8

No final fours in that span. HOW LONG CAN SHE LAST????

And CViv...

2008 -09 21-13 overall, 9-7 Big East (7th), lost 1st round of NCAAs
2009-10 19-15 overall, 9-7 Big East (7th), lost 1st round NCAAs
2010-11 20-13 overall, 11-5 Big East (4th), lost 2nd round NCAAs

Not picking on Rutgers, just pointing out that even HOF coaches can have poor stretches. There can be a variety of factors - loss of a great player, injuries, transfers, coaching staff changes, etc. Muffet had a bad spell after Kevin McGuff left, too.

OU had no program, they had given up women's basketball. Sherri was hired and brought it up from nothing to being a dominant program in the Big 12 conference. I believe that the first season of the Big 12 was also her first season as the coach there.

Here's OU's record in what has been considered one of the top conferences in women's college basketball:

Regular Season Big 12 Wins and Losses
1997-2011
1. Oklahoma 157-83 .654
2. Baylor 151-89 .629
3. Iowa State 148-92 .617
4. TEXAS TECH 147-93 .613
5. Texas 142-98 .592
6. Kansas State 129-111 .538
7. Nebraska 113-127 .471
8. Colorado 100-140 .417
9. Texas A&M 97-143 .404
10. Kansas 92-148 .383
11. Oklahoma State 83-157 .346
12. Missouri 81-159 .338

Big 12 Regular Season Championships (including ties):
Oklahoma 6
Texas Tech 3
Texas 2
Kansas State 2
Baylor 2
Kansas 1
Iowa State 1
Texas A&M 1
Nebraska 1

Big 12 Tournament Championships:
Oklahoma 4
Baylor 3
Texas Tech 2
Iowa State 2
Texas A&M 2
Colorado 1
Texas 1

And they've been to three Final Fours.

I think the Sooners may get their butts handed to them this season in Big 12 play. But they'll be back.

I don't know about Norman, but I spent a week in Enid once in the 1980s. Vast nothingness.

Well, Enid didn't think you were all that either. And neither did her sister.
