Also confirms the biggest concern about Pope when he got hired. Can he pull in elite talent in recruiting and the portal. Too nice of a guy, great offensive guy, but will probably not last long at Kentucky.

The season they’ve had makes last year an even bigger surprise. Pope had almost no time to put a team together but came up with Lamont Butler, Oweh, Robinson, Carr, Williams and Brea off the bench. A really good and well constructed rotation. Way better than this years team for which he had more time and a bigger budget.

Mark Pope is a solid coach, but I don't think he is a great coach. He has coached at 3 schools, Utah Valley, BYU, and Kentucky. He has never won a conference championship or a conference tournament, and in his 3 seasons in a Power conference, he has finished 5th, 6th, and 7th. Last year, he did a great job with the depleted roster after Calipari left, but this year should have been better.

Saw a 22M NIL "investment" associated with this year's Kentucky roster. Would have been interesting to see how much higher a Yaxel commit would have pushed that number.
