Mark Pope is a solid coach, but I don't think he is a great coach. He has coached at 3 schools, Utah Valley, BYU, and Kentucky. He has never won a conference championship or a conference tournament, and in his 3 seasons in a Power conference, he has finished 5th, 6th, and 7th. Last year, he did a great job with the depleted roster after Calipari left, but this year should have been better. The season they’ve had makes last year an even bigger surprise. Pope had almost no time to put a team together but came up with Lamont Butler, Oweh, Robinson, Carr, Williams and Brea off the bench. A really good and well constructed rotation. Way better than this years team for which he had more time and a bigger budget.
