I was yelling the same thing at the time. Seemed like an obvious decision to make. Not sure what he was thinking not putting Clingan in.

He wasn’t thinking at all, was just following Hurley’s text messages.

True both on the floor against certain opponents might not work, but isn’t that where scouting and coaching comes-in? We have talented “twin tours”. We could beat any team in the Big East just by starting and/or showing a lot of Clingan, Sanogo, Jackson, Hawkins and Karaban, with Newton first off the bench. I also think Newton plays better coming off the bench.

Similar to the last couple of games - Clingan was +9 and Sanogo was -10 !! It's tough to be a -10 in a game that we led until the final 2 seconds. It's very clear going forward that either Clingan has to start over Sanogo or we have to try to go double big for some of the game. Which would force us to play Zone which I think would help us since we have a lot of length and can't stop dribble penetration. On another note I think it would a good idea for whoever is bringing the ball up after a made hoop to not walk it up since we usually use like 7 seconds of the shot clock just to get the ball across half court and if you add that with how long Sanogo holds the ball when he catches it their isn't much time left to do anything else.

I'm just saying that is maybe why the staff is hesitant to play both at same time. No one to back them up. Obviously coach thought enough of Johnson at beginning of year to start over Karaban. Well he should be able to help on drives compared to what karaban does at the 4.

Yes, the ball dropped into the lap of a player who was positioned directly under the rim.

Do you think Clingan would’ve let him get position like that? Also, if the ball somehow still lands in the Hall player’s lap, do you think he’d have had as easy a put back with Clingan in his face? The answer is, hell no. Clingan’s mere presence alters shots.

Teams are gonna go on runs, especially at home. Seton Hall did. Teams will have lulls. UConn did that.

But, with 10+ minutes left, after Hall closed the gap to one, UConn scored eight points in 66 seconds to get the lead back to seven with nine minutes left. It was still a five point lead with five to play. For the next three minutes, neither team hit from the floor, although Hall sunk two FTs to cut it to three.

In the final two minutes UConn attempted one shot, a Karaban three. The final six attempts were all from forwards, two each from AS, DC, ang AK. Over the final seven minutes, Newton scored six points, a jumper and four FTs, Rest of team scored zilch, nada, bupkis.

The way I see it, UConn lost the game in the last five minutes, not the first five.

Obviously you already know the answer to this, so not sure what point you're trying to make. DC had the only two, one, if not both, off his own missed bunny. The three TOs were Jax, Newton and Clingan. Hall had two TOs in that same time frame and four offensive rebounds.

Yes, Clingan would have let him get that position because he got there when Kadary was driving on the right side and Clingan, like Sanogo would have focused on that. People need to watch the play. If there was anybody who could have boxed him out, it's Hawkins.

If Clingan was there, he’d have to shoot over someone who’s 8 inches taller with a longer wingspan than Hawkins. It would have made a difference, maybe he fouls him and he doesn’t make both shots either we win or overtime. It would have been Impossible for Clingans presence on the court to result in a worse outcome…. Only good things could’ve happened had he been put in vs the result we ended up with. Without him we lost, with him our chances of a different outcome go up dramatically.

Right. To argue otherwise is really the logical fallacy of the predetermined outcome. There's just way too many variables at play to suggest the play even goes down the way it did. Like, at all.

Sanogo helped on the drive forcing the pass deep. He was now out of position. Karaban was boxing out the dude who scored and left him to jump out on the 3 point shot. Sanogo had boxed out the right side. Jackson’s man took the 3 so he ran in for the rebound but was now behind the rebounder. The shot hit the front rim and went straight down into his hands. Which is why no one jumped. Not sure how this was on Sanogo.

He had the whole right side and knew Richmond was there and couldn’t leave him alone for a put back. If he leaves that side to go to the middle and the ball bounces to Richmond who was coming from behind him and he scores ya’ll will still blame him.

Watch again he didn’t touch Richmond he didn’t even put a body on him at all actually Richmond snuck under him and had a better chance at the rebound than Adama. In those situations your natural instincts should be to look for someone to hit with your butt so it’s not on him he didn’t get Ndefo but he didn’t do his job either. If Andre he and Newton who are all near the basket hit someone that ball lands and it gets knocked around. You seek a body to bang and keep away. No one did their job and they got what they deserved.

There is no point. Half the board thinks Clingan is Wilt Chamberlain and Sanogo is now Kwintin Williams. Never seen UConn fans have a more irrational man crush on a player.

Kids know. These are losing habits brought about by mental lapses, and made worse by no tactical leadership. A recreation league coach would know to put Clingan in. More subtlety if there are no TOs left you send your guy in with a message … box, box, body on everybody on shot … as a reminder
