How big would this win be?

I will cut against the grain and say the potential exists for this to be a bigger win than the Notre Dame game which in hindsight did very little for us.

A win tomorrow would hopefully rejuvenate the fanbase (sell tickets) and potentially set the stage for us to be undefeated when we play BC. Hey we might feel like a big time football program again. So yes tomorrow is a huge game and potentially a memorable turning point game for the program. ND was memorable but not a turning point.

I will expect the worst (ACC refs) and hope for the best.

This game reminds me of when the Rent opened back in '03. We beat Indiana season opener I believe. Week 2 had BC come to town. Program had juice and momentum. Sold out stadium. We lost but if we would have won that game the season could have been special. I feel the same about this game and season.

Doesn't the visiting team provide the officiating crew? That has been protocol in the past. If I am correct, who does UConn contract with for officiating...

I may be wrong as it was many years ago; while it was our home opener, IIRC, the Indiana game was a couple weeks into the season.

That BC game was missed opportunity and it could have been a launching point for an even better season in 2003 and possibly a bowl game (we had no tie-ins so we're left out that year).

I don't know what you're asking why about
Why do you think the liberty game was the biggest win in the Mora era of UConn football?

After Cuse steamrolling us last time, I am going into this game very cautiously optimistic. Their huge OL scares me, mostly because our DL looked so underwhelming against CCSU. Hopefully, we left plenty up our sleeve against Central and Cuse has no idea what we are about to throw at them. However, I'm too beaten and battered emotionally to expect that. I will say, a win in this game will be as big a win for me as we've had since beating highly ranked Houston under Diaco. I really need it.

Top 25 team. Weren't they undefeated?
I don't know if they were undefeated. They were ranked and the win made us bowl eligible (after a multi-year stretch where we won very few games, most of which were against FCS schools.

I enjoyed it so much that I ended up on the field (something I swore decades earlier that I would never do) and got a hug fromAD Dave.

How is this any bigger than the ACC games last year. Or Maryland? Or BC or Tennessee the year before?

Momentum. We had no momentum going into last season, personally I never thought we had a realistic chance to beat Maryland, and after that blowout it felt like the program was still stuck in the mud. Right now it feels like the program is turning a corner and if we pull off the big upset tomorrow, being undefeated going to BC would seem to be doable.

This is it. Winning tomorrow can put us on course for a dream season of sorts. It will also massively extend the time period that we get great press this fall which is huge for our recruiting and realignment hopes.

We had momentum when we beat a ranked Liberty team in 2023, heading into a game vs Army. That wasn't big.

I don't see this as particularly big. If they win out up to BC, then that game is big.

It's not even a big upset. 6.5 point spread. It would be a nice statement though to show we're serious about this football thing.

Do you believe that Syracuse would fire their head coach after losing to us? Ask Charlie Weis how that went.

The Syracuse game tomorrow doesn't even come close to comparing to UConn beating Notre Dame in their house on national tv. I still want to beat the life out of them tomorrow...

When we beat Syracuse on Saturday, would this win be as program defining as the win over Notre Dame in 2009?
This win in no way is program defining. Jim Brown glitter has blown away a long long time ago. Syracuse name means nothing in football. However….

Consistent winning against regional D1 teams should help significantly in attracting NE and NY high school top talent. Toss in competitive games against the likes of Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State, WV etc then that helps significantly. Maybe grab a few more PA and NJ kids.

Doing that would help put fannies in the seats and help offset the lack of conference membership.
