No. Not close. When we beat Syracuse on Saturday, would this win be as program defining as the win over Notre Dame in 2009?
No. We’ve beaten Syracuse before. And there was a time during the Edsall 1.0 years when it was expected that we would beat them. Syracuse is not Notre Dame. When we beat Syracuse on Saturday, would this win be as program defining as the win over Notre Dame in 2009?
This is such a big game for UConn but it doesn’t really stand out (if we win) in comparison to other big wins that we’ve had. Syracuse commentators calling this our Super Bowl but it is far from it. It’s just a really important game on our schedule. It would be more clear evidence that the program’s trending back up. But nothing close to what UConn accomplished when they were in a power conference during Edsall 1.0. Those years are evidence of what Uconn can return to if they get back to a power conference.
I still have pictures on my phone of my father and I rushing the field, all time UConn memory for meThis is such a big game for UConn but it doesn’t really stand out (if we win) in comparison to other big wins that we’ve had. But for Mora, for us UConn fans, I do not wish to take anything away from the importance of this game.
This is a key time for the program… are we for real… are we going to be in the national discussion as a solid football program in the top 70 teams in the country? If we are then we absolutely have to start winning games like these.
Close score - not going to do it.
No moral victories.
No excuses.
If we were to win this game, it would be huge, but Syracuse is not even in the top 50 and this would not compare to other games / mentioned in this thread.
To me the best one that I can remember is when we beat Houston and stormed the field against ranked team. If we ever wanna get back to that high note, we’ve got to win on Saturday.![]()
Watch a replay of that ND game and you'll know.honest question because i wasn't a fan back then - how "program defining" was the ND win? what did it do for us exactly? asking bc i don't want to get my hopes up that a syracuse win would really do much for us, in terms of inching closer to a P4 invite.

The biggest piece of the ND win was that it was the first win since the passing of Jasper Howard after three heartbreaking loses including on the road at no. 4 Cincy, and a walk off kick return vs Rutgers after we took a lead with seconds remaining. First of 4 straight wins to salvage the season.honest question because i wasn't a fan back then - how "program defining" was the ND win? what did it do for us exactly? asking bc i don't want to get my hopes up that a syracuse win would really do much for us, in terms of inching closer to a P4 invite.
This game will be more of a reality check for their asinine fanbase moreso than our Huskies.
If we can cause the demoralization of their football team (we know the basketball team is literal hot garbage), then the only thing they’ll have left to do in Syracuse NY between the months of Sept thru April is methamphetamines and/or heroin.
Assuming a win over Cuse this Saturday and/or BC later this season, I think the Duke game/win could rival the ND win. At home, multiple P4 wins, likely setting up a double digit win season, would have the optics for a real jumping off point and a declaration of being firmly competitive. As always, what comes after matters just as much as the game result.
That is fair, but a 3:30 window could be a slot where the slate is not packed and neutrals are looking for a game and CBSSN is on enough streamers/cable boxes.I don’t think so.
A Duke win would be big, but the Notre Dame game was on national TV.
