Very big game. 4-1 over the last five should get us in. 3-2 might do it but I would rather not test that theory. It would also be huge for momentum. I agree with the sentiments that we should not necessarily be chalking up the Nova, Pitt or PC games as wins. Beating Marquette gives us a bit of breathing room in that we might be able to lose to SU and one of the others and still have a shot. Lose to Marquette and things get very tight.

Everyone seems worried about Marquette being forced to play small with Gardner out and how that creates matchup problems for us. I would love to see us make THEM pay for not being able to matchup with our size. If not by dumping the ball inside on offense, then by dominating the boards.

seeing as how our two best wins so far this season are from FSU and Harvard (and at ND, i guess), yes, this game is huge because we need a win against a very good team, if only for the sake of getting as good a seed as possible (and we still have yet to break even in BE play i believe).

If you ask the kids on our team, they'll tell you that the goal is not only to make the tournament, but to win the whole thing. Tomorrow they've got a chance to send a message to the rest of the country with #12 Marquette coming into town.

Defense is the #1 priority. We have to keep Marquette's guards out of the lane and defend the three point line. If we do those two things I think we get it done.

thought of that as i clicked post. see edit. the point is, we have much fewer quality wins than we did last year, and even last year we had to scrap for a good seed in the tournament.

Let's not forget the whole notion of who is playing well down the stretch, which is weighed. With an ugly losing streak not far behind, finding a little run here and convincing the committee that they are on the upswing can only help. These 6 games are get it done time - stopping stringing it on the edge and show some cajones.

There is no reason that Drummond can't dominate the marquette bigs. He's go the size, athleticism, and strength. If he comes to play for the whole game we'll be in good shape.

If Marq starts Crowder and Gardner up front(I'm pretty sure they do but I'm not positive) then I think we can get away with playing AO & AD up front together without a problem. I think it would be similar to WVU, have AD guard Crowder because of his ability to go outside and handle the ball and have AO deal with Gardner who is a load inside. I'm most worried about defending their guards, like Syracuse they're pretty big and should be able to shoot over ours pretty easily. Its really got to be driven home to Bazz and to a lesser extent Boat and Lamb that they can't play the man down/hand down technique in this one and stop going for steals that aren't there. Also worried about who is going to check DJO, Giffey would probably be the best option on the perimeter but having him out there means one of Bazz/Boat/Lamb are on the bench and that weakens us offensively.

While I think AD can do a decent job on Crowder I don't like where he will be when the ball goes up, on the perimeter. He is our best rebounder and they will need to have him on someone who will be posting up or hanging more in the lane - therein the reason we will need Roscoe to be a player tomorrow! But it could work out I guess although Alex has no shot on Crowder and the other problem is Crowder going by AD and getting cheap fouls.........tough match up!

I thought the selection committee was getting away from that and putting more stock into the "entire body of work". Bottom line is this team needs to prove to themselves and everyone else that they can beat a quality team. They have a huge opportunity with Marquette at home in a game they are more then capable of winning.

Side note: I think people under-estimate how impressive the win in South Bend was. Considering Notre Dame has only lost three games in conference, were riding a 30-something home game winning streak, and have won every other game they've played in that dome including a pummeling of Cuse, it just might be our best win. And not only did we beat them, we demolished them. They put on a defensive clinic in the second half, and they didn't even have Boatright.

Hopefully the comittee does not under-estimate this win.

Dont worry the committee knows that's a good win as ND is a top 25 team so that's obviously looks like a good win now. We need to win now and our next game is Marquette. We match up well with Marquette and Marquette has nightmares playing UCONN because they seem to propel us to big winning streaks. Jerel McNeal still has nightmares from the crossover AJ Price put on him. This will be a coming out game for Roscoe.

Good news is after predicting the "coing out party" for Roscoe basically all year you will hopefully get it right at some point soon magic hat!!!
