My earlier post on this thread was delated - political. Hardly the case. It was SAFETY oriented. If you haven't been on 8th Ave lately, be forwarned that it's a combat zone. See NY Post. etc. Some hotels are suspect for SAFETY reasons.
I don't know if you live in the City. I do. It is not bad at all. The area has been cleaned up nicely.
 
Another option is staying in Stamford. It's cheaper, the train ride in and out is quick and Stamford is a good enough little town for a meal or two if you need it.

Jersey City...c'mon PATH at Grove St in Jersey City runs up to 33rd street in Manhattan, get out on 6th ave and walk across 2 blocks. Total fare is less than a cup of coffee.
ok fair. i mean, better than newark.
