Last night was bad. We're between a couple of the fires, but it was a long loud night for sure.

Santa Anas last night were the worst I can remember in the 20 years I've been here. We're a couple miles inland from the Palisades but so many of my friends and co-workers are either waiting to see if their house is still there or already lost it. It's a very strange feeling to wake up in the morning and an entire town is basically gone. When they issued the evacuation order for the northern part of Santa Monica it started to feel like the apocalypse.

For the LA board members I hope you're okay. I hope nobody lost their property and most importantly I hope people evacuated.

I knew this was going to happen when I saw the wind reports the other day but it's still crazy watching it all unfold.

Is Santa Monica okay? All of this is devastating but it would be so sad to lose Santa Monica.

If you know the layout the evacuation order right now covers the northern part of the city down to San Vicente, basically from the beach up to 26th. I think parts of Rustic Canyon are gone. As of now that's mostly residential and the city flattens out as you move further south so I would presume the more commercial areas are going to be okay but this is unlike anything I've seen before here. I have no idea what happens if it starts to move further south.

I don't know LA at all but planning on visiting in the spring to see friends. They were just recently sending me pictures of them at The Reel Inn and some frozen yogurt shop they always go to after eating. They're now both gone.

This is sure devastating for the area and community, and so many people are going to be wiped out over insurance. Glad you're fine but it sucks to see this happen to your community.

I think the Palisades is one of the most beautiful towns in America - it's insane that it basically disappeared overnight. Those videos are horrific.

Prayers and hope for all in the LA area. This is a terrible disaster. Heard it may be a result of youngsters setting off fireworks recently.
It does matter who leads these communities - mayor, fire dept head etc.
I know Kobe B owned a home a while ago up on top of the Pacific Palisades hill and had complained about having only one way to get in and out of the area after he sold that home and purchased a new home elsewhere.

Lived in Encinitas years ago when had fire storms, no joke. One of houses looked at buying (Carlsbad) went up in smoke, had cedar shingle roof. Fire moves fast, if in doubt get out.

I am pretty safe here in Oxnard (we call it North Malibu). It's smoky and we have no power today, but otherwise good. I have good friends that were evacuated by the Eaton fire, they went back to check on their house today, and it's still there. Other friends in the same area lost their home. Most of my friends in SoCal are musicians and other artists, so they can't afford the Pacific Palisades area. We have a dear friend who works in downtown Malibu. Luckily she was off yesterday. But the store she works in has had to shut down twice this winter due to fires. I worry about the business surviving.

New evacuation order for Santa Monica. 16,000 acres in Palisades and 10,000 acres in Eaton with 0% containment. What a nightmare.

I heard a good comparison today.

These fires driven by 100mph winds are basically a military fighter jet in afterburners blowing through the hills and valleys.

Here near my apartment in Wilshire Center (K-Town adjacent), the smell of smoke is noxious, and plumes are visible in the sky several miles to the west. My ex-wife in our former marital home in Santa Monica, however, is under an evacuation order. Crossing my fingers.

One of my kid's friends is over because her family's house burned down. This girl carpools to school with four other girls. All of their houses burned down. It's crazy.
Geezus. I'm telling my friends in West Hollywood to get out of there. I'm watching the live feed with the scanners and there's a fire in the Hollywood Hills now, fire just north of WeHo. This is from the ABC LA news helicopter pilot.

If they live below Sunset they're probably okay but holy ufkc. Pack a go-bag anyway. This is Runyon / Nichols canyons. These are densely populated areas that are basically in the center of the city. I have never seen anything like this.
