I know I would look at it differently from a coach's perspective, however as things stand now Texas is the only major OOC home game.

Given Louisville's departure - compared to last year we are losing home games to FL, Stanford and Louisville and picking up Texas. That's a huge drop off for loyal season ticket holders.

True we can get RPI from neutral and away games but if you sincerely want to built a season ticket base - this isn't cutting it.

I like the big time games, but I go to watch UConn, not who they are playing. SMU and Texas should both be top 10 when they come.

Me and my father have had uconn season tickets since 1988 and we will always renew no matter how bad they are or who they play
Loyal season ticket holders are just that.....loyal. I am getting them again no matter what. It's the casual fan that may or may not buy tickets based on the opponent.

"only casual fans care if there's some marquee home matchups. you should be more loyal and die hard like me"

Well there are 2 openings left. I imagine both will be home games and at least one will be against another top team.

Not trying to come off like that. I'm just saying I'm not going to stop getting season tickets because they aren't playing elite team. I'm sure some people are giving up there season tickets because they are in the AAC

While I'm a die hard football fan and go all the games, I've never held season tickets for basketball. I've lived and died with the team since the JC era began but just never had the desire to get season tickets.

With that said, since KO took over my interest in the team has gone even higher. I'm seriously considering getting at least a partial season tix package.

There is something about what KO is doing that has me wanting more. His style and the level of talent he is bringing in just feels different.

I'm sure there are others like me that just want to see them live and if we are blowing out Tulane and ECU, so be it.

My guess is we'll schedule a prominent team in CT, and another prominent team in either MSG or Barclays.

What I really hope is we don't schedule any of the "cupcakes" in the XL center where 5,000 show up. That's not good.

This. However it's the casual fan that needs to be catered too.

Memphis, Texas, Cinci and SMU are really the only 4 name/big games out of say 18 games? Gotta try and get another on there ( overall I think the schedule is great but that's a tough sell for season tix, particularly wwhichever venue doesn't get Texas).

Agree. It's the same in football. You need the casual fan to get sellouts or big crowds.

If winning 4 National Championships didn't / doesn't build a season ticket "base", we have absolutely no f^ckng hope.

Pathetic.

You must be a Haney predicted 1 inch of snow, so I can't go to the game because they are telling everyone to stay off the roads guy. I'll pat them on the back. If we had 20000 of them, the national perception of the fanbase would change.

Look I have had season tickets for 25 years at both Gampel and XL. I know what games in recent years draw fans - the lineup for next year needs two more good games.

I think it's difficult to really get a huge amount of season ticket holders for basketball. A lot of the people in this state simply can't make that many weekday games which means the overall season tix sales are going to be lower. If I wanted to go to a game at Gampel I'd have to leave work by like 3:30 to avoid at least some of the traffic and I normally work until around 7. Hartford is definitely easier to get to, but would require me to leave by 5 at the latest. Given the cost/travel issues, I'll get season football tix instead.

Of course I have no issue spending a bunch to go to Memphis, MSG, and Dallas :)

Totally agree. A fan base is just that - a base. If we can do no better than 6,000 fans at Gampel for a cupcake, then we don't really have a solid or dedicated fan base. In fairness, tho, in 2013 we were 33 in national attendance averaging over 10,000 fans per game. That's pretty good considering it was our "banned" year...

But schools like Ken$ucky, Syracuse and L'ville average over 20,000 fans per game. Say what you want about those programs - their fans are dedicated and show up whether they are playing Kansas, UNC, or Podunk U.

Who the hell would want to make the trek into the middle of nowhere in the cold of winter to get their ass kicked? Cant blame em.

There is a definite relationship between sell outs and playing good teams. While I applaud loyal fans who go to nearly all the games regardless of opponent ( and I consider myself that type of fan myself), I have observed empty seats with poor opponents. I can tell you good opponents usually give UConn better energy and gets the crowd going. I understand you need a mix - what we are talking about is maybe two additional high quality home games - to not fall backwards from last season.

On behalf of the board, I want to thank you for providing the type of insight that can only come with being a true insider.

Are you telling me, Chief, that better opponents draw more fans and create a more energetic crowd? This changes everything for me.

You miss the point - True I was stating be obvious -but the obvious isn't happening yet in the Home OOC schedule. And that's the problem.
