Not at all. I'd follow you over a cliff, and I don't even know you. That's the point: Others would, too, so get on the damned Ollie train and enjoy the ride.

But truth be told, you benefited tremendously from the tailwind of Maker's Muppet that year, and I can't give you full credit because he made the karma strong in the first instance. I give you more credit for the year you and Swami both got hanged (and maybe a stuffed toy Husky--Jason?--was involved; but I may be conflating?), which I believe spurred us on to the '04 NC.

So...do you know some kind of texting lingo crap we can feed people like the 26-year old above and those younger than him, who apparently don't give a crap about Ali (shouldn't be surprising to me, but is a sad--and telling--statement nonetheless imo)?

Let's Recap-

Any attempt to organize a mass of fans, or gain interest in Chants & Nicknames is as useless as tits on a bull, but might be welcome on the woman's board.

A great deal of our ticket holders are Emo fans with skinny jeans, that might be an excellent contact to buy insurance from.

Some people dislike or could give two ts about Muhammad Ali or history.

People from California got the "slows"

At 34 yrs old, I might be in the geriatric crowd, and would be better served thinking of something our student section could get behind. Maybe something haunting with an aggressive cadence like a Taylor Swift tune, or a Call Me Maybe dance skit.

A few posters thought the Idea & play on words was clever.

Folks, we are ushering in a new Era. How do you think an idea starts? Maybe some of you in your 60's just dump on ideas & threads cause you can't help your miserable selves. I've visited two dozen College Arenas over the years, and frankly our student section is weak in comparison. Dale & Pink Hat excluded, I can't wait for the time honored tradition of holding a paper & yelling SUCKS when opposing players are announced. Although, left, right, left, right ....sit down!! after a player fouls out is always fun.

If I was still in college, I would band friends together with tents & camping gear on the lawn of ESPN. Occupy ESPN.
Signs would include but not limited to- DISGUSTED, YOU'RE RUINING RIVALRIES, CAN LANCE THOMAS OR DUKE GET MY KID$$ SOME BLING?, PENALIZED TWICE, WHY DOES EMMERT HATE US?, UNFAIR BAN, DOUBLE JEOPARDY, WE SHOULD HAVE FAKED CLASSES.

Not big on the Ollie bomaye chant (I was more of a Frazier guy anyway, although I've come to appreciate Ali) but I like the Ollie's Army with the throwback jerseys. I absolutely agree that we need to get behind KO in a demostrative way.

To the geriatrics on the board,

I'm 26, just turned on Sunday (thanks for not sending me a card, jerk), and I have no clue what the hell Ollie Bomaye is, nor do I give a crap about Mohammed Ali or that fight. You can bet there's a similar attitude amongst the 18-21 year old kids who make up the student section (you know, that only part of the crowd that's actually enthusiastic).

If we ignore Fishy's (correct) sentiment that in no way will posts here ever dictate overall fan behavior, you should at least put something forward that the student section would get behind.

That fight was among the great sporting events of all time. Falls into the same catagorey as Larson's Perfect game, which I'm sure you also don't care about, The Joe Namath Super Bowl, probably never heard of, Jesse owens 1936 Olympic performance (a Black American sprinter/jumper won 4 gold medals in front of Adolph Hitler in Berlin...including psetting the German favorite in the long jump...hitler was on hand to watch that one...), the Thrilla in Manilla (Frazier-Ali in what many people consider the fiercest boxing match ever staged). I'm sure there are others you could list, but these are among the events that make sports what they are...As far as using the chant at Gampel, to me that would be sacreligious. Muhammed Ali was one of the great champions of any sport and not only that he was a brave courageous man. Can you imagine any of today's fawned upon athletes who would be willing to giveup his career at its peak for something he believed in? Many consider him the best heavyweight of all time, but he was also bright, errudite, funny, and had the courage of his convictions. Let's weight until Kevin Ollie accomplishes something before we put him in that catagorey...

File this under the old guy "kids today don't appreciate nothin" rant but I agree with you. These guys can't comprehend a world with only three major channels, in which pretty much everyone would be watching the same sporting event. In weeks before, you'd drink in every article that you could get your hands on and people would talk about them for weeks on end in anticipation of them. It generated a whole lot of energy for the event.

The Ali/Frazier trilogy were some of the most impressive sports efforts ...ever. Neither one of them came out of those fights the same man. Two different styles, both in the ring and out, and mutual animous. They were great, great events. For you youngersters, picture Rocky I and II for real and you get a sense of the matches. After Foreman destroyed Fraizer, I didn't think Ali had a chance against him but Ali showed himself to a be a superb tactition and literally took Foreman's will to fight away. Great, great drama. I don't think that boxing will ever match that period. Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Shavers, etc... These guys were enormous talents who all fought during the same period. It was epic.
