A side note I forgot to add to my previous post. Uconn shot 14 for 31 in 3 pointers. I will take that every game from now on. The players have the capacity to score 20-21 three pointer each game. WILL BE LOOKING FOR THAT IN THE FUTURE.GO HUSKIES!!!!

If you have to have a half anemia, the first half is what you "want", but I was hoping we had put this phenomenon behind us. Cannot play the big kids on the playground like this and expect to go home winners.
Your expectation of this type of hope is not possible for 19-20 year olds. You'll see more of these;-- could be 1.2 or 10. They are 19-20 year olds, not pros.

This team continues to completely underwhelm while beating the dregs of college basketball. Will the Husky's ever snap out of it and give a complete effort? Can anyone honestly say this team has put 4 good quarters in a row together yet this season?

Maybe I am wrong. But I don’t think we tried to beat Holy Cross by 100. I thought Geno was fairly relaxed even though he obviously wasn’t impressed.

I think Geno was really rotating players and trying some combinations again. (Some of them were strange though imo. Sarah Strong as the Center with 4 guards. I am just not sure when we will use that lineup against a good team.)

So, again. Not playing our best game. I think it was by design a little bit. We could have pressed this team. But how would that have helped against Louisville?

South Florida was the best performance this season imo.

Sarah was great....

What stood out to me was a lack of offensive rebounding. Too many one and dones. Sure, one can have a night when the shots aren't falling so it's important to get second chances.
Imagine what you would have been if you were a South Carolina fan all these past 3 years. What would you have thought if they didn't get all those offesnsive rebounds? Especially vs UCONN in that finals 3 years ago. . . :)

Few observations
The freezing rain right before the game was a real treat
The highlight of the game was a student who made a half court shot at halftime
The team plays it’s best when KK is on the court
K Chen is a very good player but it’s not a point guard
I saw at least three players pulled out of the game for Pour Defense in the first half
For all the talk of Paige, going to be more aggressive this year. The first half was a perfect chance to take over the game, but it didn’t happen.
Morgan,Chelli
will be a very good player during her career in Uconn
I suspect it was the first time I Sarah Strong has ever been benched for a poor play early in the first half
her response was tremendous
The team spends too much time offensively running a little bit of a weave and not making aggressive moves towards the basket

I’d like to see ice move to the hype Post and allow Sarah in Paige Post up

Honestly, take a look at all the other top teams in the country. I have seen ugly basketball by UCLA, SC, LSU, ND, TX, USC and name any team. Geno is playing a lot of players, and sometimes it’s not going to look pretty.

Tonight UConn won by 36 against a well coached mid-major that played hard. The Huskies are 7-0 and ranked 2nd in the country.

I can only wonder what you have to say about the men’s team.

This was an unusual night at Gampel. Santa was sitting behind the bench. It was a decent crowd for a weekday game in December against a weaker opponent. Said weaker opponent hung around quite well in the first half, they generated some open looks and cashed in on them. Their guards acquitted themselves nicely. Pretty well coached, I would say.

The cavalry showed up in the second half. And somebody took the lid off of the basket. the defensive intensity picked up as well and UConn was able to generate some hoops in transition.

After sitting through that snoozer of a first quarter, the final game stats are quite a shock to read. That’s a good thing. It seemed like UConn was getting good open shots in the first quarter, they just couldn’t hit anything.

What made it worse was I don’t think we got an offensive rebound in the first quarter. One and done. And we weren’t getting any turnovers into easy scores either. So the energy in the building was nonexistent at the end of the first quarter. What’s going on here, was the sentiment.

Geno was mixing and matching in a way that hasn’t been seen at Gampel in a long, long time. Ash was in, then out. Chen was set to come out over a contact lens issue but made a layup using her good eye before she headed to the locker room. Sarah was in, then out. Lots of combinations. Chen and KK on the court together, for example.

That Sarah Strong is a big time player. I am thrilled we will see her for four years. Morgan got a lot of playing time as well and looked very good. The future is bright. So is the present.

A young women did the Arvelo Airlines shoot to win contest, didn’t win but then her boyfriend proposed to her at half court. Shaking off her disappointment at not winning, she said yes. Later in the evening, a guy hit a half court shot and won something for it, I think money off his tuition. That was also cool. The shooting ability of the fans has definitely gone up.

We had eleven available, Aubrey participated in warmups. Ayanna was in the sling, bummer.

Are North Carolina and Ol Miss, dregs?

You realize these aren't pros, right?

You're not going to see consistent performances from this team in November/December. You're just nort going to see 19-20 year olds steamroll everyone just because they have the name UCONN on their jersey too.

If this is how you look at things, then you're going to be pretty miserable (I mean upset) for at least half the Big East games too. Instead you should be pretty elated what you saw.

In another thread someone observed that the trajectory of Sarah’s perimeter shot looked pretty flat and wondered if this had something to do with her low percentage in previous games. Tonight it looked to me like she was shooting a higher arc. Did anyone else notice this?

Be not dismayed. Someone predicted that this team will go undefeated. ;)

Ah, it’s like the good ol’ days on here. By that I mean the days when the BY stressed over lapses in performance while we won every game against ranked opponents by double digits and unranked opponents by 30 or more. Some of these responses could have been copied and pasted from 2010 or 2014.

One of my favorite players, Ashlynn Shade, did not have a good game. Did you see her get yanked, "Jim Calhoun style" after being on the court for all of 15 seconds? I don't recall Geno ever doing that in the past. To her credit she took it well and played better when she did get back in the game.

I thought in the first half we missed a lot of very open shots. But we should have driven more to the basket, which is where our scoring was coming from in that stanza. In the second half we shot well so who cares where we took them from.

Defense was poor for all 4 quarters, though better in the second half. Too many uncontested .
Two offensive rebounds in the first half, when not shooting well, did not provide the separation needed. We seem indifferent when shooting threes to have a player or two hunt offensive rebounds. In the second half we drove toward the hoop. This created more variety than settling for three pointers. The rebound numbers were not very good in this game.
When our defensive picked up in the second half, we got many turnovers and fast break opportunities. With our deep bench we could have played more full court pressure early to offset our weak three-point shooting.

Only UConn fans can be this sour after a 36 point beatdown

The drumbeat of criticism for Ice and Kaitlyn is astounding. Kaitlyn had 7 assists and was leading scorer at one point in the first half when the rest of the team couldn’t throw the ball into the ocean from a boat. And Ice - I thought she had a great game especially in the second half. I thought her confidence grew noticeably last night

I know people have their favorites but there’s no need to tear down one player to make another look better

Reading these posts you would think we lost by 36.

In addition to the great drive described above by Q I thought she played some
energetic defense.

Ice has continued to make progress...late last year...and another jump this year.
She is headed toward 'solid'. Wonder if at some point in Geno's juggling [which will continue to
happen...especially in conference games] he will put both Ice and Jana on
the court at the same time in prep for rebounding troubles against elite teams?
