High ankle sprain for Liam

Biggest tell aside from periodic updates is if he travels with the team to Xavier on Jan 25.

1/29 is a home game vs DePaul where he is not as needed
2/1 is a road game at Marquette where everyone is needed in top form - 50/50 for that at this point for Liam.
2/7 is a home game vs St. John's where I would currently think he could play some minutes.

With advancements in AI and medical treatments today, 4 to 6 weeks seems way conservative. This type of injury shouldn't linger more than 2 weeks. It's 2025 for God's Sake!
Even the coach is saying if we get him back in January. This injury just takes time to heal. And you have to make sure it is 100% healed before trying anything like running and cutting on it. The risk of re-injury is high if you come back to quick.

It is not like a traditional rolled/twisted sprained ankle.

The ligament in question in a high ankle sprain is the main stabilizer for the whole ankle joint. That’s why it hurts so much more than the traditional roll.

As an athlete the first thing that crosses your mind, when you roll twist an ankle in the traditional way (in) toward the torso, is let me get up and see where I am at.

A high ankle sprain the reaction is different, it’s like wow that hurts bad did I break my ankle, should I try to get up. Just the fact that Liam tried to walk it off is testament to how tough a player he is.

We got a Cam 2.0, in Liam and now we have to go through a cold January without him.

You guys really think he’s gonna be out for a month?? that long ? I know high ankle sprains take a while, but geez, that sounds a little extreme- I’m gong to be optimistic and say he’s back by January twenty something
High ankle sprains take longer that regular ankle sprains to heal. Best case is usually 3 weeks.

I broke my leg playing soccer when I was a kid. Right above the ankle. I knew I broke it because my leg bent and I could feel the bend like my leg was made of rubber (like Gumby!). I'll still never forget what that felt like. 8 weeks in a full leg cast.
High ankle was my fear when I saw the moi (mechanism of injury). It wasn’t your usual ankle roll - it was his toes hitting the floor and his foot rolling forward, not his outstep hitting the floor and his foot rolling to the side.

Today. Win #1 without Liam.
Move on...
Yup. Time to stop worrying about style points. We will move down in the Ken Pom performance type metrics while he’s out. That’s inevitable. Just win games and don‘t move down in the metrics based on winning. And stay in the thick of the Big East race.
